Just watched it. It was interesting to see a PH I've read about here in action.

I only wish Dish would get off their high horses and put OLN back on.

The guy doing the shooting had a .450 Dakota - 500 grains put that hippo right down. Of course he gave it another to make sure. Last week was a croc hunt. That was pretty cool too. thumb

I saw the show also and noticed that Mr. Chipman now carries a double instead of a bolt 458. This is arguably the best hunting show in television right now. Very well made, and very refreshing to see what I deem appropriate equipment worthy of an africa safari instead of camo clothes, blackpowder, hideous TC crooked rifles and bows! jorge

I have all 8 episodes on Tivo. It is, in my opinion, the best show on African hunting on TV. They give you an idea of the overall hunt, not just the shot on the animal. I like the fact that they have taken the client out of the mix. All the shows have the same hunter who is also a PH.

I seems to me that Dakota must have been picked up as a sponsor. Early on there was no real endorsement of any products. Then in the later shows, the PH/hunter started using a Dakota rifle and the voice over mentioned the Dakota name quite often.

Regards,

Terry

How much do your suppose McNeil's 375 Dakota and 450 Dakota weigh? It you watch closely at these rifle they appear to have unusally thin barrels. Maybe it's just a camera induced optimal illusion...

Anyone here ever hunted with McNeil? He seems pretty laid back...

Terry: I think he's an "up and coming" PH that's being groomed for this business. He's also been the PH for that BABE Cindi Garrison on another show and he is also a Dakota and Swaro sponsor. If I'm not mistaken, i think he's part of the TGT conglomerate in TZ. You know, that advertisment stuff works. When I was shopping around for a custom rifle ( I still am) , I seriously considered Dakotas, but to answer your question, they looked the same to me. jorge

This is definitely the best hunting show offered at this time. Much better than the Ruger hunting show that follows, with Jim Baker from the NRA. Has any one seen this show? From the episodes I've seen Barker is an un-remarkable marksman.

Ditto the good words about this series, Dangerous Game, on OLN. It is great.

The latest hippo episode from Zambia was particularly uplifting:

Peter Chipman joking about the hippo that looked like a warthog due to a long tusk skewed out the left side of its mouth, after McNeil commented on the unusual dentition ...

Chipman's partner PH, Sarge Abdul Karim, and Mcneil cruised the villages and dirt tracks scouting for the wounded "bad bull" hippo (gored by the tusks of another hippo in a turf battle) that had been harrassing the fishermen and local folks.

They wanted to sort out a situation and did. thumb

The footage of local hippo meat proccessing was cool: Fresh meat!

Best of all: .470 NE MERKEL toting Bwana Chipman, and the closing music that sounded like an Enya instrumental track similar to "Carribean Blue."

If sumbuddy can identify the music, I would appreciate it. "Luangwa Lullaby?"

I think I have identified the make of Chipman's double: Merkel.

I have a 450 Dakota identical to his except my rifle is a LH bolt. I believe mine weighs a little over 10lbs with a Swarovski scope and full of ammo.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! The guy who took over Dakota approached us about doing some filming in Ethiopia. Can't figure out how to work them in though. Maybe a strategic cancellation.

Both Chipman and his partner PH have had their own run-ins with dangerous game. Peter's was the lion mauling, and his partner PH's was his very own dad being eaten by a croc. It is the best outdoor show out there today, even if McNeil gets to have all of the fun!

I also noticed how on the early Buff show he was using a DR...I think a 500 NE. Then it seems Dakota picked up the sponsorship and ever since he has used a Dakota bolt of some description. At first I thought he was just switching between a DR and a bolt when one or the other was preferred but having not seen the double since the buff I bet it is a sponsorship. Regardless it is a great show. I have sent OLN an email saying how much I like the show and suggesting that it be extended from 30 min to 1 hour. I hope they come out with a DVD set at the end of the season with extra footage and all the goodies.

There would be a lot of Peter Chipman footage in the latest Marc Watts DVD: The Mane Event

http://www.sabletrailproductions.com/

... contact info for booking in Zambia with Peter Chipman: look up Wes Hixon as agent, Kwatala Safaris as outfitter.

Plenty covered here before, to be found with a search.

I only saw the last 15 minutes of it but I thought it was a good show. Better than any of the other show on that channel IMO.
I saw the elephant one twice and I thought it was really good too.

I'd really like to get a copy of that elephant episode. Never had much interest in hunting pachyderms until that aired.

Douglas McNeil owns a Westley Richards 500NE which UNFORTUNATELY fell off the back and was run over by the hunting truck last season leaving it shattered CRYBABY

That is when he started using one of the Dakota bolt rifles although his every day 'back-up" DG rifle is a .416 Rem.

Thanks for the info. Wow. That's quite light for a 450. Recoil must be snappy. I guess I should have no reservation building a 9 lb 9.3x64...

That's because Doug was watching Cindy when he should have been paying attention to the whereabouts of his Westley Richards double rifle.
