Tonight while fixing dinner after another slow night deer hunting I turned The Men's Channel on to see what kind of hunting shows were running.

I missed the beginning but this one happend to be one of Gary Bogner's African safaris. I like bow hunting as much as rifle hunting and this caught my eye as he was bow hunting in Tanzania. At least I thought that was where it was said this hunt was. I am not sure when it was filmed either but supposedly it was when he did his Big 5 collection. They spoke about rhino but I did not see any of that hunt.

Anyway, the film showed his leopard and elephant hunt. I was truly impressed with the shot on both animals. Especially the elephant, knowing how big and dangerous they are. Despite what you might think about how he ran SCI, he is quite an accurate shot with an arrow. The leopard was killed in daylight, it came to the bait real early. He had a complete pass through on it. The narrator said the arrow on the elephant was nearly through the bull as well. Both were one shot kills. Though they went looking for the ele the morning after shooting it.

If I remember correctly the leopard was 30 yards away and the elephant was 40. That bull ran into the herd of 6 other bulls after taking the arrow. They surrounded it and melted into the brush.

I wish I had caught the name of the PH and company in the show but I missed it. They showed the PH several times and he did not look familiar to me.

One of the P.H.s he hunted with when he did his big 5 collection was Natie Oelofse. I missed the show, so I don't know if he was shown.

Mike,

What does he look like? This PH was noticably younger than Gary and had curly hair.

Ann, Natie is about 6 feet tall, medium build, straight hair, is in his late 30's to early 40's, and wears glasses. It doesn't sound like the guy you saw tonight.

Terry,

I am not sure as the PH was not wearing a hat (for some odd reason). The programs are rerun through out the week on that channel so I will try and find it again.

I wonder though how much the tusks weighed on the ele bull? It looked pretty decent.

Yes, that is him.

I know both Natie and Gary both very well, and this entire hunt is on one of Gary's Videos.

They took a Rhino in RSA, and then proceeded to Tanzania for the other Big 4.

He took them all on one trip with the bow.

Thanks Terry B. Do you know how long it took him to get all of them? It seems on the video I saw Gary was on day 21 for his leopard.

Paddy Curtis was the PH on the Hippo Hunt. By the way Cabelas sells his big 5 video and a plains game bow hunt at Cawston Ranch in Zimbabwe.
