I just saw this on a news service:
Zimbabwe Leader: U.N. Should Focus On Katrina Victims
POSTED: 9:35 pm CDT September 18, 2005
UNITED NATIONS -- The president of Zimbabwe said the United Nations should worry about Hurricane Katrina victims, not the homeless in his country.
Robert Mugabe said the U.N.'s housing agency, called Habitat, has been silent about what he calls "shocking circumstances of obvious state neglect" surrounding Katrina.
Mugabe said an entire community of mostly non-whites was treated like sacrificial lambs, "deliberately abandoned" to the ravages of the storm.
He told a ministerial meeting of the U.N. General Assembly that America is where Habitat rightly belongs, "not anywhere in Zimbabwe."
Mugabe has been criticized by Habitat and Britain for his land reform policies in Zimbabwe. They've included leaving a reported 700,000 people homeless by demolishing slums.
Mugabe's government has refused Habitat's offer to help homeless victims in a dispute over how many need assistance.

500grainsMugabe is pulling the same Marxist crap that China pulled in the 1950's. More than 30 million people in China starved to death as a result.
19 September 2005, 11:22
truvelloshooter500 Grains,
You are right - his starvation program is politically motivated to destroy the Matabele tribe who is originally a Zulu tribe that fled from SA and setteled in Zimbabwe many years ago. The Shonas hate the Matabeles - you could see it as tribalism or racesism - same damn thing. Also, Mugabe only develops the North area where the Shonas live and leave the Matabeles in the South with nothing - the same goes when Zim receives 'aid' food or money.
While the nation is starving and he ordered their homes to be destroyed he stached millions away in a Swiss Account, mainly through money he received from the Kongolese Government for supplying soldiers for their civil war. Let them die and pay me is the motto you just have to perpetuate the notion that it is for a good cause.
When you have spent your creditability with the West, I guess the only way one can turn is to the East - kind of a 180 degree turn. Zim will regret this move in time to come but for the moment is provides relief.
Many SA companies, including mining co's and Banks have withdrawn - the Chinese will rape that country better than any other nation. And they will flood that country with immigrants (lebensraum). One 'commy' raping another.

Please can one of our esteemed USA guests with any interst in fair play and national pride ( patriot) please contact their congressman and ASK the QUESTION as it is of national interest I would have thought, or dont others really care

Yes, that is what I thought, too, I thought that they had been banned a couple of years ago. But then the following item was included in one of the ZWNEWS reports that I received a couple of days ago.
and now I am really confused!....

US plans to punish Mugabe with travel sanctions
By Sue Pleming
United Nations - The United States plans to slap tough travel sanctions on Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, members of his government and their extended families, a senior US official said on Friday. The move is aimed at further isolating Mugabe and is a sign of growing US impatience with Zimbabwe, whose relations with the West are at an all-time low because of human rights abuses. US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer said the US Treasury was putting the final touches to an order that would bar Mugabe, his senior officials and their families from visiting the United States. Travel visas for study purposes would also be affected. "We are continuing to try to call attention to the human rights abuses, that the last election was not fair and that there was not a level playing field there," Frazer, a former US ambassador to South Africa, said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Mugabe has been at the gathering, where he spoke earlier this week. Last month, Washington froze the US assets of 26 Zimbabwean farms and businesses it said were controlled by key members of Mugabe's government, accusing them of undercutting democracy.
I think that someone with a .50 BMG should ban Mugabe from breathing!

Jesus man get a freaking grip. As home to the United Nations headquarters we are treaty bound to allow ALL member nations access regardless of their current relations with the US government and its allies. Typically the goon squads from countries like Zimbabwe and Venzuela and others are relegated to New York city and its immediate surroundings.

LHowellPeter,
As much as I always appreciate your comments on safari hunting and ranch operations. I find your constant anti-american carping quite tedious.
Maybe these comments belong in the political forum.

But that still doesn't answer the question of whether there is a ban in place at the moment and, if so, what is this new ban going to do that the previous one hasn't?

JarrodLHowell,
What Balla Balla is saying may sound anti-american to you. What he is saying seems to make damn good sense to me.

LHowellJarrod,
While I appreciate that many will agree with the subject matter, his comments of this string and the compiled comments and complaints pronouncing that the US should do this, or should not have done that, are consistently tiresome.
It's just the wrong forum.
Like Peters comments, this is just my opinion.

almostacowboyI don't think we (USA) can keep out the head of a UN member nation (a "throbbing" member). Just like the (dick)head of Iran, they allow them in under "diplomatic" immunity.

465H&HA diplomat in any country (with an official diplomatic passport) can literaly get away with muder in any country. All the host country can do is have him/her removed from the country. Even Arafat could come to the UN meetings. How about we move the UN building to South Africa? I would vote for that. Then we could complain to Balla Balla.

Balla BallaAlthough I did not start this thread I do FULLY agree with LHowell /
It should be posted on the Political Forum, my Apology if my political view on what should be done offends
The Moderator should move the thread, but that is not up to me I am only an AR guest

NitroXI have found this thread informative, as to the US ban on Mugabe basically being ineffective as he can travel to New York and the UN HQ when he wishes ie probably with lots of side shopping trips for Grace.
Didn't know that before.
I understand why the UN treaty allows this so am not knocking the USA at all.
I think it would be a shame if some of the African political threads were not allowed on this African hunting forum. Staying abreast of the political climate in a number of African countries is very wise if you intend to hunt there with your eyes open.

Odie, that's why we should pull out of the UN & let them move the whole shebang to Paris. This entire Mugabe thing is why I hesitate to hunt in Zim.

I am not sure why we have the UN here in the USA anyway. We certainly aren't neutral, are we? I move we send the UN headquarters to a really neutral country, say Switzerland. Along with this move would come a slight reduction in our contribution to their income.

MasteriflemanI concur, whole heartly, with fredj338. The UN hasn't got the best interest of any true democracy at heart. I believe that, in view of the effort on their part to enact a world wide ban on the private ownership of firearms, that we should withdraw from the UN and kick their sorry backsides out to whatever anti-US nation will take them. We are still the major financial contributor to their efforts to see that we become a third world nation. Sorry, if you culdn't tell, I hate the UN, not for what they allegedlt stand for but for what they actually do.
