Ok, I need some help here. I have seen a quote that I thought was attributed to a character in Green Hills Of Africa that goes something like:

"everyone wants a kudu."

Anybody heard this quote before (other than uttering it themselves)?

I guess I could be hallucinating but I swear I read that quote somewhere and I wanted to use it for something and would like to attribute it properly.

If you have heard it please tell me where it is from. Thanks!

TR,

Hemingway says to Karl "Have a drink."

Karl replies "I don't want a drink. I want a god-damned kudu."

Everyone Wants A Kudu
by Craig Boddington

That's the title of his article in the August 2005 issue of Sports Afield magazine. Page 58.

In the article Boddington gives this quote:
"Everyone wants a kudu," Philip Percival told Ernest Hemingway in the 1930s.

Boddington does not give the original source of the quote in the article. I don't know if it comes from Green Hills of Africa or not. If I find the source of Percival's quote, I'll post again with the info (unless someone else posts it first).

I hope this helps....

Thank you Bob that is excellent information!!

That is where I read it. I love that quote.

Let me know if you find the original attribution. Thanks again.

I like the one Kathi found as well.

"I want a Kudu" that is the first sentence I get out of every hunter I send to Africa, has been for years. The Kudu is the "holy grail" of plainsgame and always will be...

Now to convence every hunter going to Africa that not all of them are going to kill a 60 inch Kudu, and every deer hunter that he is not going to shoot a 35 inch Mule Deer or a 24 inch whitetail, chances are about equal on all of them.... bawling

...Yeah, I'm one of those guys that wants the 60 incher....

...But...

...I'll be the first to admit that they're dang'd pretty no matter what size they are.

After hunting nyala and warthog, I think I like them just as well. A big nyala (28" or better) is absolutely stunning. My wife allowed/encouraged my sons and I to have one mounted lifesize. We did and it is in the house!!!

dogcat,

My house can't really handle it but I'm putting a life size nyala in it somewhere. How else could you really do that animal justice? I have a decent one from last year but have not mounted it. I'm going to try again next year for one I hope will approach 30" then we'll do the life size.
