HMMM. My only reservations are the same with I have with police and firefighters. Women must be able to compare in strength, ability, and courage. It all depends on the woman. Likewise with men. I'd much rather have an experienced, strong, accurate shooting, and quick thinking hunter to protect and take care of the people on the hunt. I guess what I'm trying to get at is if I was going I'm more inclined to want to know the persons qualifications, and experience, size, and strength, then I am their gender. I guess the only guy I've talked to that does that sort of thing, or did it, was Ross Seyfried, and due to his expertise in firearms, I would love to go with him, just to talk around the campfire about his experiences, and exploits. Not to mention having one of the best shots in the world with a heavy rifle and pistol beside, or behind me would be comforting. Likewise if a woman had similar experience, I don't think it would make any difference. I can't remember the ladies name, but around 1990 there was a female world pistol champ that had the respect of many of the top shooters, and she was very pretty to boot. I guess I should fall back on my namesakes position, that appreciation of beauty, and accomplishment is cross gender, and should be valued, regardless of sex, color, etc. gs

Ray: It just came to me my ideal hunting partner would be a 600 pound version of my cat=lion, or tiger. She wouldn't need a rifle against just about anything in Africa. Anything that charges she could either scare off, kill, or eat. As for tracking, how about that female lioness that you walked to 3 feet of, and you never knew she was there? Now THAT's my kind of girl!!! I also like the fact that instead of killing you, she drove you off, after a little dance... protecting her cub. I saw a beautiful female lioness at the SF zoo, feeding, at all of maybe 5 feet. She simply takes your breath away, at first glance. You don't see the cats until you are very close, and break through all the people watching. Beautiful, and terrifying at the same time. It's hard to believe a cat, a female cat, could be that big. She gave Dad a real run for his money. Huge paws, and watching her crack into shards a hip joint from a steer, to get to the marrow...well, I would not want those jaws on ANY part of me. I'm currently playing fetch the mouse with my cat. Course that could take all the fun out of hunting. She might play fetch the cape buffalo, leopard, etc. and do a Mark Sullivan... I can see sitting by the camp fire, drinking some nice beverage, and having her drag back a 55" buffalo, and lay it at my feet, to throw for her to fetch... gs [ 11-16-2003, 09:35: Message edited by: Socrates ]

The only professional guide I've heard of here in the states, in one of the magazines, used a .25-06 for backup when brown bear hunting. I believe in shot placement, but this is taking courage a little too far! I suspect a female guide would get me my wife to go along, if they had horses to ride. Equality in hunting sounds like a great idea, we hetrosexual middle-aged males are a dying bred and need to recruit the next generation of hunters with both hands. My daughter is the only one of my three children who offered to go deer hunting with me this morning. She's never sat still for 30 minutes, otherwise I'd have been ticked to take her.

Will, I agree about the wives and girlfriends!!! I was in a hunting camp where this rich dude brought his much younger wife that had a huge set of store bought Hooters and a really fantastic butt in her Levi's. He paraded her around like a prize bird dog and she played the part, making sure she bent over in front of everyone. It made for some very tense evenings around the campfire. Hawkeye47

Hell yes I'd hunt with Natasha Berg. Why not? She's probably a damn fine hunter to have survived in a predominantly male business! And I'm sure she's no shrinking violet who would blush and run for the landcruiser when she heard a stream of expletitives erupt from a client. There might be a few anxious moments but, there usually is with a male PH......I think it would make for a great adventure! A two buff hunt in the Selous? Definitely would consider it.
