From CDC Yellow Fever Vaccine: A vaccine, like any medicine, is capable of causing serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions. The risk of a vaccine causing serious harm, or death, is extremely small. Reactions are less likely to occur after a booster dose of yellow fever vaccine than after the first dose. Mild problems: * soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given * fever * aches If these problems occur, they usually begin soon after the shot and last for 5 to 10 days. In studies, they occurred in as many as 25 percent of vaccine recipients. Severe problems (estimates based on passive reporting): * Life-threatening allergic reaction (approximately 1 reported per 131,000 doses). * Severe nervous system reactions (approximately 1 reported per 150,000 to 250,000 doses). * Life-threatening severe illness with major organ system failure (approximately 1 reported per 200,000 to 300,000 doses, or 1 reported per 40,000 to 50,000 doses in people 60 years of age and older). More than half of the people who suffer these side effects die. I had the vaccine at 62 years of age, still hanging out..... Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA

Be careful, there can be serious and long-lasting side effects that are not even mentioned in the CDC literature. I was vaccinated for yellow fever almost 8 years ago. Shortly after I was vaccinated I went to Africa. I have since discovered that the vaccine caused a powerful addiction to Africa. Sadly, I now spend my days longing for the next "fix", my income has been eroded feeding my addiction, my friends and family think I am nuts . . . . A word to the wise should be sufficient. Forty years ago when I received my first Yellow Fever shot I had a severe reaction to it and my arm was swollen and sore for over a week. I've since had additional shots without incident. Go figure.

I am not sure which vaccination I had the side effects from but just like as Jim mentioned, It keeps pulling me back to Africa. There is seldom a night that when I lay down to go to sleep that I do not think about or have visions from my hunts there. Take the shots, deal with the rest and enjoy Africa at every opportunity. drwes you can make more money, you can not make more time

To answer the original question, no. But so too, I imagine, are the other responses spot on. Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

Been getting them for over 40 years and no problems. I used to get a reaction from injected typhoid, but no longer since the oral vaccine is now used.

Howdy, I am just like jetdrvr, got my first Yellow Fever vaccination in 1964 and have stayed current ever since, no problems. LLS PS, I drove turboprops, not jets. (Jets are for kids)

Agreed. The majority of my time is in piston radials, but I have many years flying the Herc. The 747 was boring, when compared to the Herc. My kid could fly a 747 if she had fifty hours in the box.

I have had a whole bunch Yellow Fever shots over the last bunch of years with no ill effects that I know of... Any medication can cause problems, but the option of Yellow fever, sleeping sickness, tetnus, black water, polio, or Malaria, or whatever is the scale you must balance and then make a choice..I'll take the shots.
