Elephants storm Zimbabwe resort

Zimbabwe has more elephants than it can handle
A herd of stray elephants has gone on the rampage in the northern Zimbabwean resort town of Kariba.
The elephants destroyed homes and caused residents to flee from a township near a national park.

A team from Zimbabwe's National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority is trying to find out why the animals seem to be moving closer to people's houses.

Zimbabwe has some 100,000 elephants, while its parks have a capacity for just 45,000.

National Parks spokesman retired Major Edward Mbewe told the state-owned Herald newspaper that he did not believe reports that elephants were moving closer to settlements in search of food and water after this year's poor rains.

It doesn't shock any of us, does it, to learn that the Zim official quoted here doesn't believe that the elephants have moved closer to human habitation for food and water during a long drought? Just goes without saying. . .After all this is Zimbabwe and Mug's government.

A "stray" elephant is one in your garden or on the road. If the good Major had a brain cell he would have stayed in the army where pay is almost double that of a parks officer of the same rank, but the army reconed that Mbewe was a little too slow ( like, how much brains do you need or want to lead frontal assults on dug in enemy??? but He doesn't even have enough for that!)

Ganyana:

At this point, you can always hope the elephants overthrow the government. At least the politicians would be smarter, as would the leader.
