Ron Thomson on the release of his book, "God Created Man the Hunter" HERE. Ron's book can be purchased at his personal website HERE. :: :: :: In 1959, aged 20, Ron Thomson joined the Rhodesian (now Zimbabwean) Department of National Parks and Wildlife management as its first Cadet Game Ranger. Over the next 24 years he rose through the ranks to become the Game Warden-in-charge of Hwange National Park, one of Africa’s biggest and most prestigious game reserves. Big game hunting was his passion and, throughout his service, he was given big game hunting opportunities the likes of which boggle the mind. He is credited with having hunted more than 5000 elephants; 800 buffalo, 50/60 lions (including six man-eaters), 30/40 leopards, about 50 hippos – and much more. All these animals were killed using conventional hunting methods. They were also hunted in the last parts of a wild Africa that is no more - where the animals could escape to the horizon and beyond. Over a seven year period he captured 140 black rhinos also using conventional hunting methods - but with a dartgun. The author’s stories about these hunts represent some of the greatest big game hunting stories ever told. He also commanded, and led, the three hunters of the culling team that removed 2500 elephants and 300 hippos from the Gonarezhou National Park in the early 1970s. These animals are not included in his hunting score. Ron Thomson must surely be one of the most experienced African big game hunters alive today. He is currently recording his life story in a series of six books the first of which – GOD CREATED MAN THE HUNTER – has just been published. Each book will stand on its own whilst still being part of the series. He calls the series - A Hunter’s Tales & A Hunter’s Trails. They will all come out in collector’s copy format and in limited editions (1000 copies only). Each book in the series will be numbered and signed by the author and the purchaser will have his name inscribed on the collector’s page in calligraphy. This will probably be the last chance that ANYBODY will have to obtain a series of quality books - signed by the author - that tell the story of a highly experienced colonial game ranger/big game hunter who lived in an era when Africa was truly wild and when the manner of his hunting the continent’s big game animals is something that we mortals of today can only dream about. :: :: :: | ||
