Trophy hunter shamed and threatened on social media

Citizen Reporter

A wealthy American trophy hunter is facing a harsh backlash on social media for allegedly luring a lion to its death at the Kruger National Park.
A trophy hunter who is believed to have lured a lion to its death at the Kruger National Park has been identified on social media as a wealthy American from Kentucky, who is facing a harsh social media backlash.

The social media justice Jared Whitworth has faced so far has included the sharing of his cellphone number and email address, along with vilification, outrage and threats.

The trophy hunter was alleged to have paid £60 000 (or more than a million rand) for the controversial kill, and kept the lion’s skin and head as trophies.

The South African professional hunter who reportedly organised the shoot, Graham Sales, is facing a much smaller, but still significant, backlash.

Conservationists fear the lion was a dominant male called Skye, the leader of the park’s western pride, who has not been seen since the hunt.

African Geographic reported the trophy hunting team had denied this, claiming the slain animal was in fact an old male lion with worn teeth and a protruding spine. However, they refused to provide a photo of the dead lion to prove their claim, citing legal and personal safety concerns.

Canned lion hunters are never popular on social media, with some believing the backlash against identified culprits could lead to the ‘sport’ being banned.

In 2015, a Minnesota dentist called Walter Palmer faced a massive backlash after he killed Cecil, a beloved lion who was a major attraction at the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe.

After Palmer was named as the hunter who killed Cecil, his dentist practice at the Bloomington clinic and Eden Prairie home became the focus of protests. Animal welfare groups also vandalised a holiday home Palmer owns in Florida.

The clinic was shut for weeks, eventually reopening without him.

New details emerged earlier this year that Cecil the Lion’s killers lured him out of a protected park in Zimbabwe with an elephant carcass, causing renewed outrage.

Palmer was never prosecuted for the killing of Cecil.

Oh boy, another lion given a name like a pet. It’s all downhill after that.

Attributing human qualities to animals. It is the root of most anti's views, IMHO. I blame Walt Disney, along with the urbanization of our society.

We had a gentleman come here specifically to ask for recommendations on a safari.

He got all the information he wanted, gone on a great hunt, and decided to post his hunt on facebook.

I specifically recommended to him to keep it a3ay from facebook, he said there is more exposure there than on AR.

He 3as given the royal treatment by every idiot who frequent that sick site, and he deleted everything.

Too late of course.

Opus - fantastic - worth a thousand words

Saeed,
Sad for him, but some people will not heed good advice.
I have two friends now hunting in Africa and emailing to me some of their pix. Those pix stop with me and knowing these hunters well, they will share them with friends only and not the world.

Anyone that is threatened on FB should look up that person on LinkedIn, find out who they work for, then tweet that you are being threatened by a person who works for company X.

It works.

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

Meanwhile over on Tess Tally’s Facebook page the animal rights jihadists continue their never ending day of rage. These people are certifiable nut jobs.

Only if one is subscribed and if there is no threat involved you can't really sue someone over their differing opinions.

Unfortunately we are faced with a change of times and need to adapt somehow.
The next BS will affect sport fishing - just wait a while longer and it will happen.

Actually, an Indian working for Bank of America was fired after posting a threat on FB. The recipient of that message looked him up on LinkedIn, found out who he worked for, and Tweeted the threat, noting that the guy worked for BofA.

In a moment of weakness a few years ago I signed up for a facebook page. It took me less than a month to determine that I no longer wanted to do that, so I asked them to terminate my account. Their response was that if I did not access my accout/page for 14 days they would terminate it. They even make you jump through hoops to leave.

Most of my money I spent on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted

Fulvio, a threat is most certainly not an opinion. If someone utters a threat on social media, they absolutely should be tracked down to the best of your ability, if not reported directly to the cops.

Muttleysgone, your Facebook page is still out there. Trust me, it does not self-terminate after 14 days.

I hardly use mine, maybe every six months. It’s always there, just as I left it.

As usual with everything to do with Facebook, they are lying.

I had to rigister to look at some posts, using a false ID, and that was years ago.

I just checked, I am still registered.

Zuckerberg never stops lying! clap
