I am narrowing my DGR search down. I'm going 416 Rigby. I've found a couple of good second hand rifles for sale, and would like input.
One is a custom P17 by Sterling Davenport, and the other a CZ 602 by Dennis Erhardt.
The prices are about the same, and both smiths have superb reputations. Both have M70 style safeties. The P17 is modified to cock on opening.
I'd just like people's thoughts on this choice.

If those were my choices (in a completed rifle) I would just take the one that had the best overall fit and feel (for me) and call it a day.
But then whadda I know? I have bought two cz fs 9.3's trying to like them both. Both were excellent rifles and I couldn't get used to either one of them...You woulda thought I would have learned on the first one.

I would take one of them and if it wasn't available I would take the other. Enough with the jokes. I don't know Dennis Erhardt but do know Sterling Davenport and have much respect for his skill. He did a beautiful checkering job on a little Siamese Mauser I have. He does remarkable work on the Enfield conversions. His work is absolutely top quality in any comparison to anyone. I'm afraid unless the P17 had some particularly great wood and fit best I would pick the Brno. I have a 602 in 375 and a CZ550 in 416Rigby and like them both very much. I don't think the P17 would really compare to the 602 but that is a personal thing and as Allout says I would pick the one that fit best all other things being considered.

602 in the drop of a hat. Nothing to do with the gunsmiths involved, I just think the 602 is a better action.

I would tend to lean towards the Enfield, but it would depend on the workmanship and how the gun fit me..both are good smiths so I suspect the rifles are equal and have the same bells and whistle, thus my choice of the Enfield. the Enfields make up into some of the nicest bolt guns I have ever seen although I have not owned one in several years...If I ever get the urge for another 500 Jefferys or 505 Gibbs, you can bet it will be on a good enfield action.

I have a 450 Watts built by H.B. Anderson on a P17 action. In my opinion, the Enfield is one of the best Magnum sized actions available and in the hands of a craftsman can be made into a true work of art.

One must truly appreciate the craftsmanship it takes to turn a sows ear military aciton into a silk purse fine custom rifle.

My Enfield is one of my favorite rifles and all things being equal would opt for another if given the chance.
Good Shooting,

I have a CZ 550 in 375 H&H. Good solid action.

I also have an A-Square 458 Lott with a 1917 Enfield action. Smoothest rifle action I have seen yet. Love this gun. I do feel that finding parts for the Enfield action could be an issue in the future, though.
