Hi My mane is Hans Brix, and I am from Denmark, and a very keen Africa hunter. I have been looking for a good lion hunt for some time, after having tried (without luck) twice now, and i feel that I will do better recarch this time. Has anyone hunted lion with the company Luxuryhunts.com in Zim.

Thanks for your help

Hans

Hans,
I believe Luxuryhunts is a booking agency as oppossed to an outfitter with their own areas and PH's. From looking at their website, those appear too good to be true on a a 10 day wild lion hunt. I would certainly find out specifically where the hunt would take place and who the PH would be. Here is a link to some previous threads about Luxuryhunts: http://forums.accuratereloadin...1&search=Searchlions

I just looked at their website and personally wouldn't touch it with a long pole.
"none exportable trophy ele and buff bulls at cheap prices". In Zim - fairy tales !!
Learn from past posts !!!
Lion, more than any other hunt is the one that you can't afford to take any risks with. It is never cheap and it is paramount that you choose a top reputable outfitter. There are plenty of recent posts on here that will lead you in the right direction if you do the search.

All about lions huh Smiler

Your biggest concern would be in what area and PH. The cheapest quality hunts ive seen are around 30k for lion. You really need to hunt a top area to give yourself a chance 80-90% to kill one.

Hans - I rarely try to go onto the public forum and solicit business. But, if you're truly interested in a bunch of good lion hunting opportunities, I suggest you send me an e-mail at globalhunts@aol.com

The lions in these photos are almost certainly canned lions, taken with a PH rumored to have a history of passing off captive-reared lions as wild ones in Zim. I can tell this both from the appearance of the lions in the photos (those hair salon manes are a dead giveaway) and because I recognize one of the specific cats and know which PH it was taken with. It's possible that the photos were "borrowed" from someone else's site, but that wouldn't be a good thing, either.

If I were looking for a good chance at a wild lion (and not one that was let out of a cage that morning), I would look elsewhere. You'll just have to be prepared to spend at least $40K (and likely a good deal more), but you will definitely get what you pay for.

Hans - You're NOT gonna touch a good "wild" lion hunt for $30k, and likely not for $40k either.

Figure at least $45k plus, and then we go from there.

Location, Location, Location, is the MOST important thing as it pertains to getting a good lion. Ya, the PH is semi-important, but location is the MOST important issue to consider.

Put the BEST lion hunting PH in the world, in a very "average" lion hunting area, and don't expect anything more than "average" results!! That simple.

Absolutely those are not wild lions.

Wasn't there a thread about these lion hunts a year or so ago? These were real problems as I recall.

I think I recognize someone in a picture there that I would never go with..

And, by the way, you would be well served to talk with booking agent Aaron Neilson if you're genuinely interested in hunting a wild lion. Aaron is a no-nonsense guy with more lion hunting experience as a client than anyone I can think of (despite being a normal, working guy and not a billionaire), and now he's a licensed PH in Tanzania. There is no better booking agent when it comes to lion hunting in any of the primary lion hunting countries, and he could even serve as your guide if you wanted to hunt in Tanzania.

Also, Andrew Baldry (fairgame) is an experienced PH who has successfully guided a number of hunters to monster lions in Zambia's Kafue, where I've worked with him. He's a great guy and well worth listening to.

Anton - True enough! Burkina Faso would not be the place I would send a hunter looking for a good maned (eastern/southern) African lion either. Especially a guy who's never got his lion!

B.F. would certainly be a more specialized type hunt, than the typical eastern/southern African lion hunt.

Hans,

I would venture to say that there are very few people who know more about "wild" African lion hunting than Aaron Neilson.

He is also an honest straight-up guy that calls it like it is.

He would be a very good guy to listen to about where to go and who to go with. I would recommend following up on his suggestion to e-mail him.

He is also a personal friend and I will stake my reputation on him doing you a good job and leading you in the right direction.

Luxury hunts.com is a independent booking agent who lives in Pennsylvania. I know where he lives and have spoken to him a couple of times. He offers hunts from many different hunt companies.

If you look at his website, his $25,000 lion hunt is no kill- no pay. what else do you need to know? no reputable outfitter in any area would make such an offer on a 10 day hunt- UNLESS HE KNEW EXACTLY WHERE YOUR CANNED/DRUGGED/BLOW DRIED LION was lying around waiting on the meat truck!!!!

Hi Hans

I really enjoyed chatting to you the other day Hans and I am glad that you took my advice and asked your question about Lux Safaris on this valuable site.

I rarely have anything bad to say about potential competitors as I feel that it is bad form but wanted to ,above all, make sure you were not swindled out of a substantial amount of money.

I think you will agree with what I originally said and from what you have read here that Lux Safaris should not be an option.

From our chat Hans I know that 2 things are important to you. Firstly the quality of the hunt and like all of us the cost. Most people simply just cannot afford a trophy lion in your normal destinations like Tanz Zam and Zim at todays prices. With this in mind Antons post about Burkina Faso is a very good one indeed.

Sure as Aaron says you are not going to shoot a huge manned lion but if you book with a reputable operator you will have a great lion hunt and shoot a big bodied WILD lion. You would have to do some research on who to go with but a start might be Arjun Ready who is on this site. Best of luck Hans and let me know how it goes. Cheers Buzz

great info - thanks a lot (and to you Buzz, nice talking to you). I agree about your points, and I can see the warning signals!!!I have a good contact in Cameroun, to absolute fair prices, but as one of you said, hardly no mane on these cats, and when i know for sure that I might only shoot one lion in my life, I have a "picture of my dream trophy" in my head!!!

About the price, "no kill no pay" thats fair, but what i fear is that I will never se my trophy arrive here in Denmark, and that would be a desaster!

Thanks to you

Hans

If I was to hunt Lion again here are a few options I would look at;
Lion in;
Zimbabwe's Chewore/Sapi/Dande areas of Zimbabwe with PH Ian Gibson or Buzz Charlton (Late season Tracking hunt). Or Rob Style in Zim's west.
Zambia with PH Andrew Baldre (Fairgame) or Mike Heath.
Mozambique (Niassa Reserve Hunting Block) with Stuart Taylor or Jamie Wilson.
Tanz with Danny McCallum Safaris.

These are all well known Lion guys and with a quick google search you could track down their info for use in you search for a Lion hunt.
Some fuel for the fire.

Oz:

Perhaps you should check Danny's success rate in 2011. Lots of lions but the 6 year rule has everyone terrified to make a mistake.
