It's still dark, but the glow of the morning sun is on the horizon. You lay on the bed slowly coming to. The sounds of the starting day can be heard from the kitchen. Your ears search for the sounds of the night. The lions made a kill, and the hyenas tried to take it. The argument echoed through the night air waking you from a sound sleep. Its still cool outside, the smell from the mopane fire is in the air. The pods of hippos that talked through the night are finally quiet. What kind of language do they have you wonder. The has to be one. The air is quiet outside of the netting covering your bed. The buzz of the mosquitos has ended, and the flies aren't awake yet. As you throw the blanket back you remember to check the floor for scorpions. The cough of a leopard sounds near. It must be the small female that lives nearby, You feel a tinge of guilt, knowing that the big tom that was courting her is in the skinning shed. Yet you know whe will find another soon. As you start to pull on your shoes, wilson comes to your tent door to awaken you with a fresh cup of tea. Ha, beat you to it today wilson. Taaking the cup in hand, you exit the tent, conscious that there might be a puff adder near the trail, but there is none. The cooing of the doves is broken only by the sounds of the other birds. The air is alive with their calls. You hear the splash in the river, wonder what that was, Fish? goose? croc? hippo? its still to dark to see. As you approach the fire your PH greets you. Sitting in the chair, listening, watching the light become brighter, smelling the fire, and the breakfast cooking, it seems as god has singled you out to give you all the gifts of life. silently your thank him and get ready to face the wonderment of the day.
Right there you've hit the essence of the safari experience.

If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy. Thomas Jefferson, 1802
