Nice Gerry. Looks like you had to put one up the nose of your second Tanzanian buff.

Bosses rule !! Remember seeing a real old dagga boy, years ago after opening the Binga area on the shores of Lake Kariba. I wish we had digital photography available then as I never did see the old boy again.

Spread wasn't more than 20" - both left and right side had been broken, and his bosses would have been bigger than his width !!!! A true german helmet - what a trophy he would have made.

Mike,

That's the one that almost got me in trouble with the trigger disconnecting. Got it fixed now. Wayne took care of me with a new trigger! 416 Rigby.

Those are actually 2 different buff.

I shot the first in 2003. I am told the bosses were over 20 inches although I never measured them myself.

I shot the second one last year on Sango (where I will be headed in 3.5 weeks). It had 18.5 inch bosses. It was a massive old bull in terms of body size.

This is a picture that Ernest Dyason of Spear Safaris sent to me a year or two ago. I don't know who the hunter is, but he was guided by Koos Moulder of Spear. Bosses are 18"+.

Here are a couple live bulls with nice bosses...

I know, the bosses on this second bull don't look as impressive as his spread, but he still has very nice bosses. I photographed both of these bulls in 2009.

Great thread and good to see that many are taking buffalo for other reasons than the spread.

I hope this fellow qualifies. I just returned from the Selous yesterday, where I had the distinct pleasure of meeting him on my first trip to Africa. I'll post details when I've recovered a bit more from the jet lag, but before then, I'd like to thank AR's Ernest for being there when I needed him!
