Aryanna Gourdin recently returned from South Africa after a hunting trip with her father. She posted her trophies on Facebook and is being savaged by the anti-hunting zealots including death threats. I read some of this garbage and it makes my blood boil. I just returned from Zim with my 11 year old son. These people are sick and deranged. Her Facebook page is Aryanna Gourdin-Braids and Bows.

For some reason the progressives/liberals always seem to be quick to jump to violence and threats of violence if someone does something or says something that doesn't jibe with their mindset/worldview.

People making death threats should be prosecuted - and would be if we had a government that believed in law and order.

For Facebook, just unfriend anyone who doesn't like your posts/photos and make them private only.

I read about it and yes, some of those comments are appalling.

The 'keyboard warriors' and the death threats, etc., are just plain beyond reasonable understanding.

Also beyond understanding is the 'I hunt, but not that type of hunting and don't agree with it' crowd. Lot's of those on there too.

Saw one comment where a poster stated that zebra were almost extinct and endangered. I really had to shake my head at that one.

Anti hunting hate is similar to anti gay or anti abortion hate.

People make personal choices that may not meet the approval of others with different values.

That does not give the bigots the right to attack anyone who makes a perfectly legal and personal choice.

I just watched ABC news presentation of this nonsense and indeed believe their view is slanted nor balanced. ABC news is in the business of making the news...not reporting it as it actually appears. The young lady is a pillar of granite and appears to be a solid young conservationist contributing to the successful continuation of many species. I give ABC news two thumbs down. MTG

The picture of her foot on the giraffe, hand on hip and her gun in the air was asking for trouble. You have to be careful since Cecil incident. At this past PHASA Convention they talked in detail about social media postings and how to be respectful. Still the girl should never apologize for being a hunter. She was legal and has a right to be proud of her kills. Funny how these same anti hunters will make death threats towards her legal hunting while supporting the mass murder of one millions babies every year here in the USA.

You Won't find me on Facebook

It is drama 24/7/365

If you post there you are asking for trouble

Being young is tough enough without the crap that Facebook brings

This young girls safai pictures along with her full name was lumped into a CBS Evening news report tonight along with a guy Black Bear spearing in Canada.......very slanted with reference to Cecil and sport hunting , import bans and airline bans

Boys and Girls....hold on to your hats because it's going to get a lot worse

Facebook is a huge troll platform.

Personal profile pages especially for youths should be private.

I run a number of pages on fb and also a personal profile site but am a bit in the public eye so just take it when it happens. As it is part of the modern world, lies, hate, etc that antis like to throw around. Luckily nothing major to date.

The antis, the media LOVE to attack women, young women especially and if pretty makes "good" copy for the evil hating bastards. And all the "animal lovers" love to pile in with death threats, postings of hatred, wishes of death by cancer, death of their families, the most vile is acceptable to these no lives mutants ...

The antis show definite signs of mental instability, depression and self hatred, that they then project against others they disagree with, and often their self hatred extends to a hatred of the whole human race and a wish for it to end ... the reason for the paradox of "loving animals" and "wishing death to a human" is their own lack of self worth, self hatred and depression.

I forget the specifics but the compensation of an emotional attachment to animals when emotional attachment to humans is lacking is a particular aspect of some mental disease.

If one visits eg some you tube videos, say where a hunting video has been shown, especially if it is on an "anti channel", the sort of comments one can read can be very extreme. Distubring is how many of these people show self hatred, hatred to the whole human race, beliefs that humans are a parasite species, that the world would be better off if the human species died out, etc etc.

All points to the writer being depressive and showing extreme self hatred, and extending this to the whole human race.

Considerable evidence of severe mental problems IMO.

The sort of persons antis are often made up of, including illicit drug abuse etc also often leading to mental issues.

That is some pretty significant insight and really tracks with what I have encountered. I have waded into many frays with these nutters attempting to use logic and reason to overcome emotion and insult with little result. Not a complete waste of time but not highly successful either. A few on the fence might have been enlightened but the extreme cases hold fast.

According to Facebook a person must be at least 13 years old to make a profile. So she's already violating Facebook's policy.

Agree with these points.

Time recently published an article on internet trolls and the culture of hate. Mentions Dr. Palmer in here, but it's really examining the broader issues.

All of these reports may be just hyperbole. According to the national news (I forget which network), they showed one post that stated "You and your father should be hunted."

Not that big a deal IMO.

Actually it might be interesting to have the hunters and the anti-hunters "hunt" each other. No doubt who would come out the winner. LOL

As a hunter I support our right to hunt and our rights to post videos on YouTube or any other social media, I just do not believe it is a good idea.

The 12 YO's parents could not be so naïve as to not expect the reaction they received especially after the girl from Texas posted her hunting pictures a few years ago. Also I cannot fathom the depravity in one's soul it would take to write some of the statements I read. Those people are truly sick.

But there is a large percentage of people that read these posts on YouTube and Facebook, see the pictures and videos, but do not comment. All they see is a dead giraffe/lion/other "iconic" species and wonder why somebody would shoot one. These are the people that must remain neutral. This same large percentage of people eat beef. The beef suppliers do not show cattle being shot in the head with the employee posing next to the dead animal, or at least I have not seen that commercial. I have watched commercials with cooked and tasty steaks and burgers, they make me hungry. If you have a public Facebook page why not tell the true story of conservation through hunting and the good that hunters do? The problem is those stories never go "viral" (I hate that word) and you never become popular in the social media world. We do not always have to be in your face with dead animals, it does us no good. The beef people know this, it seems as though we could learn. This girl's Facebook page took off with the dead African animals, The first postings (I found) were in the beginning of June with few initial comments. In the beginning of August she posted the African animals and well she has now made the national news.

Mike:

I would respectfully disagree. First, she has done a damn admirable job of explaining the whys of her killing the giraffe and other critters.

But mainly, you're wrong because you and I are of a different generation. The kids today, LIVE to post selfies, facebook, twitter drivel, snapchat, instagram, etc. It is who they are, at least as teenagers, young adults. I think they create a post everytime they fart.

You and I wouldn't do it, but then again, you and I probably don't text thousands of times a month either, or, at least ONE of us doesn't. Wink Different times, hopefully they will mature a bit as they age.

Definitely a different world today with social media. I truly believe it has caused us to lose ground with our hunting rights.

And you are right I do not send thousands of text in a month. I would prefer never to send another, but its becoming more common place for work.

I despise Facebook. I had an account and deactivated it. It is good for staying touch with oversees friends etc. but the bad outweighs the good.

I reactivated it this week because of the flooding. It has been put to good use for helping people in need, delivering supplies where needed etc. but will be turned off again soon.

Hi Mike,

Things are far different today than they were even 5-6 years ago.

They were on Fox and Friends just now. Father froze up and was not making any sense. They need to have someone more educated and articulate to represent them on National news. They represent all American hunters to people that are misinformed about Africa. This could be a planned publicity stunt to similar to Kendall Jones.

This could all be good in a sense that it making antis and others used to the fact that there are hunters in this world who hunt and are proud to do so-hunters from all walks of life.It helps get our conservation message exposed and it shows that we are a numerous force-makes them think twice about confronting us.

In the past I have tried to debate with anti-hunters on Facebook. Mostly it was an exercise in futility. I temporarily re-activated my Facebook account because of the local floods so I read through some of the posts on Aryanna Gourdin-Braids and Bows.

I posted the information below. Not a single response from anybody on her page. Everything or nearly everything the anti's have is emotional drivel. That does not keep them from winning in the long run, but it is frustrating to see their complete lack of understanding of game management in Africa.

quote:
I have hunted Africa mulitple times in Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, and the Republic of Congo. I truly believe in conservation through sustainable hunting and photographic safaris. Each country in Africa faces its own issues in managing game. However the common problems are poaching and loss of habitat. I have never hunted in South Africa so it is a little harder for me to talk about conservation there. Most of my time has been in Zimbabwe. The photographic areas in zimbabwe are under utilized. Most Americans never even heard of Hwange before the hunt of "Cecil" went viral. How much revenue do you think is generated by photo areas such as Matusadona or Chizarira? Not much if any. Chizarira is devoid of game. Parks is broke and it is extremely difficult to manage game without money. Near Chizarira there is a hunting area called Sengwa Research. It is full of game. It is properly managed and all paid for by hunters. Other areas such as the Bubye Valley Conservancy and the Save Valley Conservancy are models of conservation. These areas are funded by hunters dollars. I have hunted the Royal Kafue in Zambia. There was no game there 8 years ago. Now it is full of game. The operator worked with the local community, ended poaching, and gave wildlife a chance. It is now thriving with everything from lions and leopards to sable and roan. Again paid by hunters dollars. Even more important it is what the LOCAL COMMUNITY WANTS. I could go on with many more examples and to be honest there are some very good photo outfits that contribute to conservation and there are some bad hunting outfits that do not. Instead of calling me a murderer, engage me, give me your view of conservation and how it should be funded. Give me success stories of where photo operators have rebuilt game populations, etc.

I think facebook is an amazing company - facebook and whatsapp are game changers in communication and media.

I also think it is futile to try and debate and win over anti hunters on facebook. The beauty of facebook is its free open access and network effects/economies.

I see a lot of hunting business guys use it and they are on it as its free cheap information transfer - much more than free advertising.

But for a 12-13 year old girl to try and build a social network hunting following is a stupid endeavor. If she and her parents just wanted her to post pictures and share with friends she should have made her profile private. To keep an open profile and try and attract support without attracting anti hunters is impossible. If you want support from hunters you are going to have to take scorn from anti-hunting activist. That is reality no way around it.

And as a side note when I post hunting stuff its for my friends only. I have a diverse set of friends - a lot of AR people but also some vegetarians and even animal right activist (one of my oldest friends). The most criticism I get is from friends who are super conservative right wing republicans who are anti hunting. They want me to stop killing animals and buy my meat at the store like they do Wink

Sooner or later they will get banned from advertising this "despicable" activity - wait and watch the developments.

Airlines and hotels who have been providing a service to hunters for a profit have put an "emabsrgo" on hunters and in reality have lost business - FB which is providing a free service has nothing to lose financially but will gain the respect of the antis.

Maybe kill pictures go into review or something but I doubt it.

Facebook is most sanitized PG-13

Youtube is rate R

Twitter is XXX

FB has stopped sale of guns ect as has ebay. Amazon carries a ton of gun accessories and hunting stuff.

I dont think FB wants to get in the product censoring space.

But if hunters post social unacceptable stuff - animals being tortured ect it will get shut down. There have been some pretty terrible hunting videos on youtube.

If one keeps a private profile no one will bother you.

I just dont see why anyone would want to make their 12 year old daughter a public figure unless that was the end goal.

If you want the 5K or 50K or 500K followers one should be prepared for a barrage of anti hunting post.

I would never post a lion picture on any public forum. Cause an anti hunting advocate using your lion photo can turn you into a public figure. No one cares about me next to a dead buffalo.

And all these hunting public figures with thousands of followers are selling stuff to the hunting world. The anti hunting stuff bounces of them professionally.
