Gents, I have scheduled 2 days in Capetown for "tourista" activity. Any suggestions on what to do/see appreciated. I hope these 2 days aren't a waste of time, the primary objective being to let my cook and my mom (both accomanying as observers) see something other than the hunting camp. Suggestions? Would you consider renting a car? Thanks.

Arts, Don't know if you have any interest in naval history, but if you do you might like to look up the story of 'Just Nuisance' on the internet which is all based in and around Capetown. You might find something of interest there. Alternatively there's always the wine route or the sharks.

I can at least tell you that finding your way around Cape Town (and its suroundings) is quite easy if you decide to rent a car. Unlike the rest of the african cities we drove around in, Cape Town actually has street signs (Well actually, RSA is in general very good regarding street signs), and Table Mountain is an easy landmark to navigate by. Table Mountain itself, and it's great veiw, is well worth a visit IMO. I'd also check out the sharks in Gansbaai if I was to use a day or two in the area. Have a look at: http://www.sharkdivingunlimited.co.za/ Then of course you have Cape Agulas, the most southern part of africa, which now also consists of 2 rocks from the North Cape of Norway! We brought them along through africa, and "planted" them when we reached the cape, making a little event out of the "cape to cape" finsh. With Champagne naturally! Erik D.

Spend a lot of time there. In two days you can, after renting a car and buying the Cape guide book at CNA (Central News Agency, believe there's one at the airport): -- do the cable car to Table MOuntain and have lunch up there; -- visit the Botanical Gardens at Kirstenbosch just around Table Mountain and have tea there. If you like to walk, park at Kirstenbosch, walk up through the gardens to the Table Mountain contour path, and then around and down to De Waal Drive just past Bishopscourt and then walk back along the road to lunch at Kirstenbosch; -- drive to the wine country with stops at Meerlust and Kanonkop and end in Franchoek for a magic lunch at Boschendaal estate; -- try Cape Malay food at the Kaapse Tafel just south of Long St., not too far from the President's offices and the Parliamentary Gardens that are small and worth a stroll; -- do some book shopping on Long St. in Cape Town itself, starting with Clarkes. Stop on the way at City Guns on Hout St. just a half block uphill from Long St. (the waterfront has some interesting shops, but it's too much like a mall for my taste); -- if you need or want (!) jewelry Uwe Kutter used to make very high quality items... Lots to do in the Cape. Regards, Tim

My wife and I hired a car with a driver, and visited Table Mountain, Cape of Good Hope, and a lot of wineries. Your hotel or B&B can arrange this for you. Take lots of pics.
