I was just wondering if anyone would happen to know the value of a book by Tony Dyer and illustrated by Bob Kuhn titled "Classic African Animals the big five". It is a limited edition of 375 total and is signed by both of them, contains 6 prints by Kuhn.
Thanks everyone,

The only one I could find available for sale, following a brief search, was on Amazon for $1,100. There are of course more recent reprints, and yours is the most desirable. I imagine its value is somewhat less than the $1,100 being asked.

I have the trophyroom book 1996 edition that is limited numbered to 1,000 copies. Mine is 2x signed by Tony Dyer and once by Kuhn.
IMO Its mainly intended to be a nature/nat. history book, than a hunting book. There's not a single photo of clients trophies (has mainly "National Park" big game photo shots; although some of the animals in the photos are huge). Not a whole lot of actual hunting stories either, for that matter. While its informative, its for sure one of the least favorite books in my collection.

Dyer is one of the great east african phs, (with plenty of good "campfire" stories,I'm sure). Too bad it reads mainly as a natural history book on the Big 5. I personally would have preferred to see photos of huge trophies he & clients shot over his long, successful career, and hear the interesting & funny stories behind the hunts!
I'm not saying its a bad book (just bit dry & boring) but (IMO) it could have been much better with better hunting stories & photos. It was probably intended to be marketed to both hunters & non-hunters alike.
So in case youre thinking its full of edge of your seat hunting stories & kill photos, you may not be happy with it (especially if you spend $1100.)!
The Bob Kuhn art in this book is however, fantastic. and to me is the best thing about this book.

I have both the Trophy Room Books 1996 edition and the original, earlier edition of 375. It is the edition of 375 that is worth more than $1,000.

As Tanz-PH says, Bob Kuhn's art is fantastic. The world lost two of its greatest wildlife artists within the past few years -- Bob Kuhn in 2007 and Paul Bosman a couple of months ago. I feel fortunate to have known both of them.

Doesn't this thread belong on the Books and Video forum?

Bill , thanks very much. Yes I have one of the 1973 versions of the 375. I apologize for posting here but I just did not see much activity in the books and video forum so I tried here. Thanks for your help I think I will try and put it in the classifieds.
