I use Uncle Mike's 10-round slip on carriers.

These are the ones you slip onto your belt.

Works great.

I have just ordered for some custom made by Les Matheson http://www.matheson.co.nz/pages/5rp.html. I ordered for a plain belt and open slips like these http://www.traderkeith.com/7a.html from Trader Keith.

I have asked for 2 X 416 Rigby size & 2 X 9.3X62 size

I should see them next week. Total cost about US$ 205 for the belt & 4 slips. Italian vege tanned leather.

I'll post photos once I get them.

My go-to is a .416 Rem. Mag. by Bill Wisemann. It has detachable magazines, a lot like the old Steyr's. Four down. I keep one in the rifle loaded with softs or solids depending on what is appropriate and have two spare magazines in a surplus two-grenade pouch. Then, I have a Murray 10 round slide, half softs/half solids. Have various Murray slides, covered and uncovered for larger and smaller calibres.

As mentioned, others make very good products as well.

Midway has 20 rnd cartridge belts for about $12.
Check them out.
I was going to order two along with other stuff but, they were all out of the other stuff so I didn't order anything. Sorry I can't say much other than this as I haven't seen one yet.

Years ago I had a gunbelt made up for 36 pistol shells and five rifle shells on the front. This time I had them use the inch wide elastic straps used for those boot pulls on cowboy boots. They're a whole lot better than leather.
That setup was made for .30 carbine, yet the loops will stretch enough to hold .45 Colts too.
My first rig was leather shell holders, they stretched out of shape, some tore, then I made the mistake of leaving shells in it over winter and they attracted moisture and eroded enough I pulled 'em down and scrapped the brass.

Something to think about.

Naki, I own both of them and can highly recommend Les Matheson's products.

I prefer belts over slides. When in the vehicle i do not like the way slides feel, so to take them off means my pants belt has to come off and take slide off. With a cartridge belt it comes off simply and hangs over head rest on seat back. Also you often have 2 rifles on the truck, a large and smaller caliber. I have 2 different belts for two different calibers in two different colors. Works well for me. I also had a knife sheath built into belt. Holds 12 rounds

I have Boyt ammo carriers, leather, 10 rounds, slide on, and a Boyt canvas ammo belt. Both products are well made and not very expensive. You can find them online by word search Boyt ammo carrier. I originally got them from Cabelas but I don't think they have them any more. Boyt also makes a good canvas ankle gaitor that is inexpensive, sometimes I give them as gifts to my PH.

The problem with ammo carriers IMO,is that they are not stable enough to pull rounds out of quickly. If you are doing a sniper type hunting and there are no eles around I guess they will do.I believe all the good PH's use a belt with the cartridges in the front for quick access too.

I use the belt slide cartridge carriers on a second belt. The 10 round and larger carriers tend to not fit well between loops on the pants so I use a second belt.

Yes, I always use a second belt for ammo and whatever. Much more convenient.

Ok! Here comes the heresy jubaleigh. I absolutely love the fabric ammo holders that slip on the butt of the rifle. Your rifle and extra ammo are never seperated and you don't have to deal with an ammo belt pulling your pants down. Simple and simple works great on a safari.

I think I have tried just about everything except putting them in my pocket. I have one of the Murray, One of the Trader Keith and One of the Cabela's that I think was made by Boyt for them. I like the ammo belt better than the slides. I also don't like the shells pushing on me when I sit down and I can take the belt off. I also bought some designed for Doubles from a gent in Utah. These are slides that have room for 6 shells, but they are spaced for 2 shells at a grab. You will eventually find something that you like better than the others.

I also use a second belt. My first belt goes through my belt loops and holds my pants up. On my second (wider) belt goes my slider ammo holder, a knife, and a small digital camera in its case. My ammo holder is a Trader Keith leather "backup slide" that holds 6 rounds of .375, and they are spaced apart for easier grabbing. I wear it in front on my right side, next to the buckle. Trader Keith also makes some nice cotton webbing ammo holders and belts. When you get in the truck or are finished hunting, just take the whole belt off.
