I've spent the last few months reliving my Botswana elephant hunt and have decided that i want to get some long ivory.

Im a little hooked on the thrill of elephant hunting now and i cant seem to quit thinking about it. As with any hunt i need a goal and all i can think about is long ivory.

I really like the looks of my Botswana thick tusk bull and the more i see videos of the long thinner ivory of Tanzania the more i want an impressive bull like i see being taken there.

My question for you guys is where would my best chance be if I were after such a trophy? who and where do you guys think I should start looking at?

stomper,

Elephant hunting is a unique experience and it's easy to see why you'd want to go back for another bull. Having said that I'd have a hard time recommending Tanzania. The long thin ivory you desire comes from the Selous and the poaching is extremely bad there. I've spoken to a couple of Tanzanian PH in the last few days and both said they would not recommend a Selous safari with elephant as the focus.

I do have some other ideas which I will PM you with.

What I'm hearing from other sources is Tanzania's elephant hunting is way down and so is quality, but don't know for sure.
Thing is, I haven't seen any elephant hunting reports from Tanzania for quite a while and that also gives me impression, that things are not good there.

thanks for the heads up guys. I was hearing this about the selous and a reputable outfitter had me convinced to go to go there with him. However, I've dealt with african poachers before and I can tell you I'm not wanting to deal with those issues again in the near future.

Mark is right. The Selous is not what it once was. Hell, most Elephant areas in Africa are not what they once were, with a few exceptions of course.

Tanzania is a shadow of what it was even a few years ago as it pertains to elephant. Poaching is rampant, and ele are the target. And it will get worse. Still some long stuff around? sure, in isolated pockets, but practice running hip or spine shots if Tanz bulls are what you want as they are on DEFCON1 these days.
