Having just returned from RSA, their new gun laws got me thinking. They are going to be restricted to (4) firearms;
(2) hunting rifles
(1) shotgun
(1) handgun
Assuming you have several of each, what would you keep if you lived in RSA? Me:
12ga pump
4" 44mag
.375h&h
7x64
I hope I never have to make this decision!

That's if they approve of your application to own any guns at all. What's the number of denials - something like 80%, I think.

Interesting to think about I guess. My picks would be a .375H&H, a .270 win., a 12 pump, and probably a 1911 in of course .45acp. If I couldnt have a .22 rimfire also I would probably drop the .270 and have the .22. The .22 is a very valuable tool...Sorry about the crappy pic its a 5.5 inch Duiker. I finally found someplace to host my pics so I'll put them up but please bear with me as you can see I'm not very good at this..

plus as many muzzle-loaders as you like....I guess they have forgotten that the Boers were pretty handy with their "voorlaaiers".

I hear they are declining 97% of the applications, so the act is a de facto gun BAN.

375
30-06
16GA
45ACP
If I could only have 4 guns, I would definitely invest in some quality pieces. I might have to drop the 375 and add a 243 as many (most) South Africans hunt more impala/springbok/blesbok for meat than lion/leopard/elephant.

I think it will depends on the type of game you mostly hunt, and also in your bank account if DG hunting is your main target. I'll go for:

9,3x62 (for big antelopes and ocasional DG)
243 (for small antelopes)
22 long rifle
12 gauge
