I am leaving for a leopard hunt with CMS in late April. I am also retired so I am not worried. Got my vaccine from the VA and ready to go.

It is not that most on here would be able to afford to take a trip to Africa or some other country out side of the USA. The decision to travel is a personal decision based on the knowledge that they are looking at and mulling over.

Some older individuals who would like to make the trip, are concerned about their health, getting stranded in a foreign country for who knows how long. Could you afford to be stranded in a foreign country, maybe yes, maybe no, it would depend on the individuals.

If I was still working, the short answer would have been "NO". Communication today makes it easier to stay connected world wide. However being on vacation taking phone calls, or doing your e mails is not a vacation. And if you spend 12 hours in your office now they would expect 12 hours when you are away.

When I was working, pager, cellphone, and computer were a given it did not make any difference where I was going to for vacation, you had them with you, that was part of the job's expectations. I remember taking hunting trips to Alaska and taking my cell phone and computer along on the drive up and back (sometimes we drove and other times we flew). The phone and computer were in use when I was not driving, taking care of questions from the different bosses. It did not trouble me at the time as I knew that when I made the bush plane office, I would be leaving every item in the vehicle.

You make some good points. I’m fortunate that, being divorced with both of my children in their 30’s, the only dependent I have is my Yellow Lab (who happens to be sleeping in my lap as I write this). I’ll have my cell phone and laptop with me and will be working a bit from camp as long as I have a cell connection. It’s the price I pay for having unlimited vacation time. If I had to, I could work remotely for an extended time as long as I have cell and internet service. The most significant concern about not getting back would be the health of my elderly mother. She’s still pretty independent, but it’s only a matter of time before she’s going to need assistance on a fairly regular basis.

Jealous!! Where and with who?

I will be hunting with Cabassa Safaris, and, at this time, I believe it will be in R3.

I hunted just outside the Reserve in Marangira with them in October 2018. It was a fantastic trip, and I'm looking forward to introducing my wife to her first taste of African wilderness.

Hi Bivy

R3 Jamie Wilson’s old area. Should be good with a couple of years of no hunting.

Keep us posted, good luck!

Major.

I think there is a ton of pent up demand out there.

Vaccinations are being administered in vast numbers.

Airlines are flying to and from Africa with greater assurance and regularity.

What are folks who could go, if they wanted to do so, actually doing?

Hunting seasons are open, or will be soon.

Would like to have seen a third category. No, but would go if I could.

We are going. Had to cancel last year like most so we are making the journey in May to the Congo to experience the rain forest. Robin has always wanted to hunt Bongo so she gets her chance pandemic be damned.

I hunted TZ last Sep/Oct before being vaccinated. Absolutely no problem with Covid. I've now been vaccinated won't hesitate to return.

Will leave 5/13 for a reunion in the Bubye with John Sharp and a big Tom. Will fly Qater having heard some very positive reports on them. Being retired and having vaccination makes the decision somewhat easier.

Would go in a heart beat this year if I could. Right now, it looks like next year before I can go.

I get my second vaccine shot on Tuesday but would have gone anyway without it.

Imagine being stuck in Dar or Bulawayo or worse.

No thanks. Hunting is a vacation. Or suppose to be.

Don't know about Dar but Bulawayo would be OK as I have friends there.

That being said quite a bit of difference between a honeymoon couple at a crowded hotel in a resort city vs a hunting camp in the middle of nowhere. A lot less human contact in the latter.

Getting my second Pfizer shot next Monday. I am not worried enough to cancel plans. Though they seem to be canceling on me. End of May paddleboard trip at Norwegian fjords just got canceled as well as my driven pheasant hunt in Scotland at mid October. I am still hoping to take of for Harare end of July.

I'm the flip side of tanks. I don't know anyone in Bulawayo, but have friends in Dar. Plus, there are some great hotels in Dar where you could stay for awhile with no discomfort, albeit at significant expense.

Suspect the same is true of Bulawayo. Always wanted to visit the Bulawayo Club. Getting stranded there would give me a chance.

Would rather be stranded in either place rather than anyplace in Mexico.

Great article from Craig on international travel. Thanks for sharing. Craig has always been very helpful to new hunters by sharing his extensive experience.

I know he was to me. Really liked his comments on Chad. I considered going there a number of years ago, but backed out. Seemed a little too hot at the time. Maybe someday.

I'm ready to back to Africa. I'm just beginning to look. My son wants to give leopard another try. I really want to hunt buffalo and elephant again.

I've had both Pfizer shots and have a ton of unused vacation.

I'm ready to go.

Go Duke!!

Looks like we've settled at 60-40% in favor of going on safari this year.

Sixty percent is a strong majority, but on this site, I would have thought more of us than that would be going.

I am planning airfare routes with bwanajay as I write this. We are heading out to hunt with Bokomossa in Botswana in late June. A few complications, but that is to be expected in these interesting time. I sincerely look forward to getting back in the bush and this is the first trip I have made to Botswana even though I have nothing on the menu I haven't already taken. Everyone tells me this is just a great expereince.

In October, a bigger group of us are heading to the Selous in Tanzania to hunt with Luke Samaris for buff and hopefully a Nyasaland Wildebeest. First trip to the Selous, want to see it while we still can!

Next year, only one trip to Africa, but a big one to Ethiopia. I never dreamed I would hunt there one day but what the hell, I'm not getting any younger.

You know what they say, if you can afford to fly first class and don't, your kids will!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Good attitude and Zambia appears to be fully booked this season.

I have zero concerns about actually catching Covid, I've had it.

My concerns are strictly getting stuck in country.

I had two trips to Brazil planned, the outfitter cancelled them on his end for that very reason.

My Son and I leave for Botswana 5/8. We were booked last year, we just gave my Bull Elephant another year to grow a little more ivory. My son’s Buffalo may have a little more horn. I heard from Johan’s camp just yesterday and all is looking good.

Attended a nice event hosted by Simpson's Taxidermy in Conroe today. Met a lot of great folks interested in African hunting. Met my PH for August. So it was good.
