It pains me to write this but I must officially say I hate bwanamrm. I talked with him for a long time today and heard about all the hunts he has planned for this year, which is extensive. However he truly cut me to the quick by telling me about the hunts for next year. I am now officially saying I truly truly hate him.

I must put an addendum to my post. I have an additional reason for hating him. Russell invited me to hunt Mountain Nyala with him knowing that I would have to rob a bank to afford it. I believe he is wanting me to be arrested, therefore I really hate him;.

. . . don’t be deceived. There is a method to his madness. He did not intend for you to rob a bank, he intended for you to need a loan from a bank. Oh, and he knows just the bank to call. Shrewd devil.

I have had the pleasure of hunting a few times with Russ. More of a gentleman you will not find and he is darn fun in camp!

I will never forget the first hunt I did with Russ we were on a 10-day ele bull special and we were chasing the same bull for several days. On the 10th and final day we had bumped him a few times and it was hot as hell and lots of flies. We took a 10-minute break in the shade and I heard Russ muttering to himself " and I cant believe I am bloody paying for this!!!!!" rotflmo

Well we finally got that Bull and it remains one of my best hunts with a great guy! Been retired I hope Russ hunts as much as his wife will alow him!!

All I can say is "jealousy is a green eyed monster" as pointed out by Dr. Dollar! And in spite of this post Lindsay, you're still welcome to hunt with me anytime. I am an equal opportunity kind of guy... I even hang out with LSU grads. Even though they smell like swamp water... right Butch?

And remember the old banker's creed: It ain't what it costs. it's how much it costs a month!" Big Grin

I've had few regrets in this life and hunting with a lot of you from Jines, to Buzz to fishing with Burke and Butch are certainly not regrets but exclamation points!

I look forward to meeting and hunting with more like-minded brethren in the future!

Remember that hunt fondly... seems there was a PH who reneged on his promise to eat a mopane worm with me... and on another hunt scoffed at my baboon shooting prowess!

Russell is ok, he will even hang around with uneducated welders.

The problem is you, Russell, and others live on the wrong side of the Sabine river unlike Butch, Mr. Lindsay and me.

Toby and I still talk about that trip.

My only hunting regrets are the trips I did not make, not going on the Dugga Boy hunt back in 2013 (IIRC) is one of those regrets.

All I can say is, the only time I ever talked to Russell, he was a damn good guy. He helped with some information on Sitatunga hunting in Zambia and I’ve always appreciated that help from a total stranger.

I think it’s fantastic he’s in position to enjoy as much hunting as he can do. When I grow up, I hope to be as fortunate.

Swamp Water! Smells like lavender.

I happen to have a couple pieces of paper from LSU, but as I tell people "you can take those pieces of paper and $1 and maybe find a cheap cup of coffee"

By the way Mr. Lindsay is my Dad, I am Mike Lindsay

I must expand on the Mt Nyala hunt. Russell starts that part of the conversation by saying "I was looking at things and I am missing just one of the spiral horns" He proceeded to act as if it was mandatory to go on the hunt, that it would anger some hunting Gods if he didn't ect ect

Sly fox he is

One year, after trailing behind Russ on another hunt somewhere else, we hunted woodcock and grouse in the North Maine Woods just a few days after he had been there.

We had tried to mesh schedules, but it didn't work out.

Russ cemented our never-met-each-other friendship when he left us a nearly full bottle of single malt. The outfitter surprised us with it, along with a nice note from Russ, on the first night.

We enjoyed a good time shooting at birds and drinking Russ's whisky, although I recall that on his trip before us, Russ had somehow managed actually to hit far more of the elusive quarry than we did. My theory is that marksmanship may have played a role.

As I reflected then, one could do a lot worse in the hunting department than simply to follow Russ's lead on hunting trips all around the world! The only thing better would be hunting right there along with him. Maybe someday.

You know me Vaughan! I am planning to scratch the kudu itch soon. Headed to Botswana in June with Jay and Tim to hunt on Clive Eaton's property for one of the reported monster kudu there.

And I am far from an expert on Africa... every trip I learn something new, see something I've never witnessed before and trod on new ground. I have been fortunate and blessed beyond words. Always looking forward to the next safari!
