Sorry guy's, I know that this has been beaten to death, BUT, how much ammo can I bring with me to Namibia?? I am leaving on friday, and these laws change constantly. My PH is telling me last time he checked it's 60, but I have read that it is 100. Does anyone here know for sure!!!!

I just checked the NAPHA website, and it says 100 rounds of ammo per hunting rifle may be imported. The airlines limit you to 11 pounds of ammo, total.
On my recent hunt in Namibia, I took 50 rounds, and brought back 42.

Ammo limit into a country is not your problem, you can bribe past that in most of Africa..Your limit is set by the airlines you fly on...Most airlines are 5 kilos or 11 pounds, but be sure and check that out prior to your flight, as there is some dispersion here...

In the 2005 HUNTNAMIBIA brochure, it states that 80 rounds per firearm are allowed. Again, this is not rigidly enforced, and the airlines seem to be more concerned than anyone. Last year, Delta tried to include the weight of the locking metal box against my ammo allowance.

Granted,I have only used Delta and SAA but in 6 trips I have never even been asked if I had ammo, much less how much or or what it weighed. Am I just lucky or what?

But, when you get to Namibia, you have to fill out a form declaring the number of rounds you have. On my most recent trip I was also asked how many rounds I had. My hunting companion was not only asked how many rounds he had, but he also had to show the officer his ammo for counting.

I've checked guns/ammo into Namibia six times and they have actually checked the ammo about half the time; amount and headstamp. One time we each brought a brick of .22 ammo (500 rounds) and once the officer saw that it was simply rimfire ammo he didn't care.

So do you think that I'll be OK to bring 100 rounds. If they do give me a hassle, what will they do, keep some?

Wolfgar what kind of question is that Confused, why push the envelope if the regs state 60 rnds /rifle caliber then that is what they say.
I can not imagine what you would need 100 rnds in any caliber for to begin with. Even if you needed to mount another scope an sight it in that accounts for <10 rounds of ammo, How many animals you planning on shooting??????

Wyn,
I have asked this question, since some sources say the limit is 60, some 80, and others 100. There does not seem to be a definitive answer. I plan on shooting 10 animals, but I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. There is also unlimited baboon and jackel there too. Wolf

Wolfgar,

I just got back from Namibia and was pretty certain that I was limited to 60 rounds. However, after reading the replies here I am not so sure what it actually is. Nonetheless, I was asked how many rounds I was bringing in but the officer never looked or counted my ammunition either entering or leaving.
