I think you should be able to do a good Buffalo for that price in Zim.or less and be able to drive into the consession. Most other countries - well that is another story.

DUDE! First you want "cheap" then "good", then challenge the wildness of Zim? Or, maybe those questions aren't related. I could have misinterpreted.
Asking questions is always a good thing, but may I suggest that, since you obviously have a computer, do a little Googling. Wink
As far as photo's, there'll be plenty of Kodak moments for you, but from personal experience, I'll say that when you're out hunting buffalo, your attention better be on "hunting buffalo".

You will probably get some hits for that kind of money but be sure you know what that money gets you, they can sure add extra costs on these hunts over and above what is advertised..

The best I can do is $11,430.00 each, 2x1, 7 full days of hunting, includes everything but tips that are optional, charter in and out, dip and pack, gun and ammo fees, one buffalo; Everything but your airline ticket to Dar es Salaam, and you get the same treatment as a 21 day hunter...Plainsgame for trophy fees.

I don't think it can be done cheaper without taking something out of the hunt...

i am looking for a hunt under 10,000 and obviously i want it to be good. i dont know zim. i was just wondering if the area that you can drive to is remote enough and not a fenced concession. im trying to compare it to a plains game south african hunt i did in 2006. it was a large concession - 90,000 acres, i think, but it was fenced to keep predators out. i dont want that.

Although private farms in South Africa can be large and fun... They do not compare to the campfire areas in Zimbabwe(basically add a 0 to the South Africa Farm acerage). Getting into and out of Omay North was a 6 hour 4 wd experience. I hunted probably only 25 miles from our camp at Lake Kariba..2 plus hour drive in the am... Under 10K is going to be tough all in... airfare alone will run you close to 1800 from the states but you might find a good deal from one of the outfitters on the forum. Expect a 7 day minimum but many will require 10-12 if you have any interest in plains game while you are there... Good luck and post some pictures when you get back!

Craig,

Unfortunately like most thing in life, the words cheap and good rarely go together in African hunting. - My advice would be to either find a way to increase your budget, or if you can't do that, you're gonna have to make a sacrifice in quality. - One thing you might consider is trying to find someone to hunt with and go on a 2x1 basis. - Even then, you'll effectively be cutting your hunting time in half........ that's the sacrifice, but it's a better sacrifice to make, than opting for a sub standard hunt.....

I can vouch for Tshabezi. I shot buffalo in that Gokwe area in 2006 while hunting elephant and leopard. Good hunt with decent buffalo. Next to the Omay, where I think the buffalo might be a bit larger, but I saw several decent buffalo and ended up shooting a nice bull. If we weren't so concentrated on the ellie and leopard, we could have chased buffalo every day.

How about $6K? We can do a buff cow 10 days@$500 plus $1K trophy fee...plains game available at $reasonable trophy fees. We can also do a 12 day buff/hippo/croc/pg at $500 daily plus trophy fees. These hunts would be in Zim, for 2007.

For buffalo bull, we can get you a hunt for around $10K in Zim but this would have to be in late Sept or early Oct. Could be done with Sable or with Tuskless Ele.

PS I have reason to believe that Tshabezi Safaris is about to lose their Gokwe concession.

Apparently Russ' comment on Tshabezi has some concerned.

There is no issue to be concerned about with Gokwe.

Russ, you are welcome to present your "reasons" if you think have have a valid one. Or you are welcome to apologize.

You should be careful with what you say. An unsubstantiated rumor like this posted on a public forum, by another agent, no less, is not only in poor taste, it is reckless and inconsiderate.

For the money you've mentioned you will do no better than two that have been mentioned here already. I have hunted with my clients in Zim with Dudley Rogers/Kirk Mason in Gokwe and Frik Muller with Pro Safaris in the Omay. Both hunts were very good, but operators professional.

Kirk Mason is no longer hunting with Dudley, as he's moved his family to Austraila. Dudley's absolutely top notch himself and his son, Clinton, is also hunting.

Recall the recent post with the lioness trying to snack on Clinton while he was showering during the Zim PH test?

Let's bring this back to the front again. Els just posted on a different thread..."Well with all the bad news out of Zim lately The good news is that with Tshabezi/Dudley Rogers hunts are going forward as planed. They are not having any problems other that the usual."

As to driving into wilderness area this is easy to do. I hunted the Omay a couple of years ago and we drove in from Bulawayo. It was about 12 hrs in bakkie that just wouldn't go I would think with a decent truck the travel would take less time. If you hunt your Buffalo in the Omay you will earn it no doubt. It is a great area, a rough area. Not the flat lands of Tanz.. You will climb up and down cliffs and over tough terain, maybe do a bit of belly crawling or duck walking, you know the real deal.

...I just this minute, (1955hrs Zim time) got off the phone with Dudley Rogers of TSHABEZI SAFARIS. I asked him: "Have you lost Gokwe?" His answer: "My contract for Gokwe expires 2010, and I expect to continue operations as per normal 'till the contract expires. All hunts will proceed as normal in Gokwe."

Dudley asked me to post to all, his gratitude for the good words in his behalf. He will post an open letter here on AR in the future. As you might immagine, Dudley, like so many other safari operators in Zim, have quite a bit on their plate right now.

As I, and others have posted, pull up www.zimbabwesituation.com for the latest info.

There are many places in Zimbabwe where you can be in total wilderness with Lions,Leopard,Buffalo and much plains game and still be within 10 miles of a paved main road. A half hour out of Victoria Falls airport and you are in some of the finest hunting country you can ask for. One hunting area I know actually runs right up to the airport boundary. Civilisation does in fact exist next to wilderness in many cases.
