I would get the shots for sure. Some health insurance plans cover such shots so check on it. They may not pay all the costs but will probably pay something. I even get most of my prescriptions (malarone,doxy, etc) paid for when traveling to Africa. At a minimum Hepatitis A should be taken. It will also take a few weeks for the titers to build up. You don't want hepatitis, especially when it can be prevented | ||

Not that it means much, but I never have got them, even though A is usually recommended. I think it is on their list, w/o really knowing the risks. | |||

I am going to South Africa in May 2005. Has everyone that have been there had a Hepatitis vaccination? My brother, who is a physican, says that I need to get both Hep A and B vaccinations. I checked with my local clinic and also the health dept and the shots will run a total of $824 for my wife and I. That sounds pretty high. I am considering doing without. What have been your experiences with vaccinations and the cost? Thanks. Roger | |||
