With all the gloom and doom coming out of Zimbabwe I thought you might like to hear some upbeat hunting stats.

I just got a e-mail from Mokore Safaris today covering their year end results. Remember this is a small company with a total of 5 PH's.

Highlights of the season:

15 bull elephant with 8 being over 60 lb. and one at 75 lb.

Buffalo on the Save averaging 40" with one 43" being taken.

2 big lions taken in Chewore south. Several buff shot in the low 40"'s

2 of the leopards on the Save going 160 lb. and 165 lb. 90% plus success rate.

In Mozambique on their Coutada 9 they now have a 30 year lease on the million acres and have put in 6 bore holes and further devleopment is planned. The area produced buff up to 42", big eland, sable, hartebeest etc. plus a 31" nyala.

The Duckworth's will be at shows literally around the country this winter if you would like to speak to them.

If anyone would like a complete copy of the Mokore Newletter I would be more than glad to e-mail it to you.

Following the Reno show I will have Mokore's DVD and brochure to distribute if anyone would like.

looks like they had a great season, and sounds like they are onto a winner in Mozambique.

Logistically how hard is it to hunt in Mozambique and what is the terrain like. Is it say comparable to the Zambezi Valley or the lowveld in Zim?

Nevstar,

For most hunters it is very easy to get into the Mokore area Coutada 9 in Mozambique. You just fly into Harare and drive across the border with your PH. In your case being from the UK I would think we would have to arrange transport from RSA. Doesn't seem a problem to me.

The terrain is fairly flat woodland (no swamps). Almost all hunting is done by tracking. Not as much of the up and down hills you find in Zimbabwe.

What I like about this hunt is a wide variety of game and several species not found in Zim can be hunted on a 15 day schedule in a very wild place.

I hear lots about Mozambique being expensive but this hunt is priced exactly the same as the Mokore Zimbabwe hunts. In fact since there is not the 2% Zim tax it comes out a little cheaper.

Aug.-Oct. is prime time. Personally I will be hunting it in Sept.'07 and am really looking forward to it.

Regards,

Mark

I had good hunts in Mozambique. If it weren't for the gnat allergy, I'd go back to Coutada 10 happily. They have the most gorgeous dark sable there. Anyone know who hunts in the Lake Cabora Bassa area? Perry's hippo story has me starting to pant again.
