The good folds at North Fork bullets tell me they are waiting for the field results to come in before making any more CUPS in .416 or .423 So, all of you who doing this work for all of us, what are the results? Get em on over to North Fork, I want to buy some bullets.

It's the good "folks" of course, not the good folds.

Thats not right, Several of us have used the .416 Cup points in Africa..I have shot at least a half a dozen bulls with them in .416, 4 with the .470, and twice that many with the 404 and some more with the .375.

Ray, so if there is field data available to North Fork for the .423" cup solid, what do you think they are really waiting on?

They worked well enough for a one shot kill on a buff in Zambia this year! No fuss no muss the bull just shuddered turned to run and dropped like a sack of you know what. Great stuff here.

I received some samples yesterday -- 450-grain .458 CPS and FPS, as well as some 400-grain softs (open box special Big Grin) that I can take some pictures of tonight if you like. If you do a search Ray has had some pictures posted here for him before, and 500grains has posted some pictures here and at NitroExpress.Com.

Those of you that know me, already know that I don't come to forums much as I believe that they are for users only but since I haven't gotten off my butt and put something on the website, this is as good a place as any to answer several questions.

There are a lot more folks out there, with those bullets than I have heard back from. Maybe they didn't get anything, maybe they thought they sucked but didn't want to say so Wink or maybe they weren't going this year. I don't know. I am proceeding anyway.

The 423 can be problematic as the raw material that it is made from is just barely large enough to clean up to a 423. If there is any surface flaw what-so-ever, in the rod, it cannot make a 423 and has to be used for a smaller caliber. The material is gone through and the perfect rods are saved for 423. Hopefully, in the future, any surface flaws are minimal to, at least, the percentage that 423 need to be made compared to the other 40 cals.

The photos that Charles will put up are of the style that was available this past year. Those of you that have followed from the start know that the whole point was to have a mono with the absolute minimal contact area and still get the job done. It has been found that the current design works well if the bullet and bore dimensions are a good fit but it is unforgiving of larger than normal groove diameters and/or weak (shallow) rifling. Consequently, I am working on a greater number of lands to correct this. The new style will also allow greater flexibility in seating and OAL. Before I make any large production runs, this new style will be pressure tested to make sure that there are not any nasty surprises lurking in the shadows. Plus intentionally undersize bullets will be tested to make sure that there is still sufficient engagement with the rifling even under less than ideal conditions.

With time for testing and material delieveries, I should have saleable quantities by the end of the year; certainly by Dallas.

Sorry for the delay and poor picture quality. Some idiot left the primary digital camera on and ran down the battery. Roll Eyes I had to resort to the back-up camera.

[ Edited: There seem to be some intermittent server problems at the photo host tonight. I apologize if you can't see the pictures. ]

DAgo Red, and Wink,
I had those Northfork cup points in 404 and 470 posted on AR when I got back last year and the year before that..So they are on AR in some deep dark file...Someone that understands such things could pull them up and post them on this thread if they were amind to, I, however have limited computer skills and chose to never learn another thing in my life, my mind is well worn as many on here will vouch for!

Thank you Ray, I actually got them sent to me in an e-mail and will try to get them posted on here tonight when I get back home again. I am really glad there has been so much field testing and review here, when I start reloading my 375 and when the 458 is done I will only need one bullet supplier.

I agree, the only bullet I take to Tanzania in the future is the North Fork cup points and flat nose solids from Bridger....

NFMike, Thanks for making it clear and letting us know that more will be available. You were great in getting some 416s to me awhile back and I appreciated that. I look forward to the 423s.

The only way you can recover a Northfork FN solid, GS customs FN solid or Bridger FN solid from an animal is to make sure he is HUGE and shoot him lengthwise and pray to the Red Gods it doesn't come out the other end.. thumb
