I ordered an Armalite AR10 with a 16 inch barrel. What average velocity should I get with 165 grain bullets?
.

SliderSo I should be around 2500fps according to the Link?

GrenadierFrom what they did, and accounting for the last 1/2", I would guess 2400-2450fps.

Joe from So. Cal.I've chrono'd 147 gr. BT's out of my 91 and I get around 2625 fps. That's with Nigerian and Venezuelan surplus.
Isn't the surplus military berdan stuff loaded a little hotter than domstic, commercial ammo?

nope -- in fact, never, as 7.62x51 is SPEC lower pressure than 308 commercial .. they are, actually, different rounds - but most people will argue for hours over that
05 July 2016, 02:34
RugerNinerI won't argue that fact.
05 July 2016, 07:01
Idaho Sharpshooternot to argue, but I use the same set of dies, and have never paid attention to the difference between FN, Cetme, my DPMS, or commercial.

jeffeossodon't shoot factory rootin tootin 308 ammo in a cetme - it WILL gain headspace -- and same FALs will, as well
but, then again, reasonable loads in autoloaders tends to reduce the likelihood of steelrain

INTJMy Ruger SR 7.62 shoots Federal GM Match 168s at 2600 fps.

7mmfreakBased on my testing at APG a 175gn in a 16" gun will be around 2450 to 2500fps.

BiebsI just got in a GAP-10 with a 20" barrel. Now to order up some match 308 and see what she'll do.

INTJNice!
BTW, I have now officially met your requirements. Not only is the smith finally working on my RUM, the weekend before last I picked up a very nice 90s vintage Bushmaster A2 and have the parts on order to build a optics ready service rifle upper.
I also picked up a 1955 year pre 64 M-70 .270 FWT in 90% condition. It has an uncut stock with an aluminum butt plate.
So now in 2017 I am at two newly acquired NICE guns in the second month of the year.........

BiebsGreat start to the year!

SliderI got 2440 fps average (4 shots) with Federal Premium 168gr. Matchking BTHP.
I should add this ammo shot 1 M.O.A.

Dans40XCLoad some Moly'd Sierra 155gr Palma's over 43-44gr of IMR 4064 just shy of magazine length in your Armalite AR10's chrome lined Bbl.
Accuracy is less than 1/2 MOA through a 1/2 dozen ArmaLite's to date.
Naked 155's will shoot 1MOA.
