Is it safe to shoot todays 14.5 ammo in the old PTRD?
short and fat and hard to get at, hit like a hammer and never been hit back.

EdmondHave it checked first especially the headspace and the locking lugs but the ammo did not change. Where are you located?

DUKThanks! I remember recently seeing them announced for sale in a gun magazin.
Is it still fun to shoot them? Maybe with a reduced Blue Dot load?

EricThose have re-barreled to both .50 BMG and 20mm Vulcan.
I'd go with the .50 BMG. It's easier to get and legal to own. 14.5 is a "no-no" here in the U.S.

mstarlingOctave,
We, in the US, have defined anything above .50 cal (bore diameter) as being a destructive device that required a special Federal transfer and tax. This does not usually apply to shotguns, though there are certain types where it does apply.
One of the oddities of our firearms laws.

Tell me such idiocy does not apply to black powder guns...

Big words from a small minded man.
And no, it doesn't apply to muzzle loaders, only cartridge guns.
