Just got an AR-57 upper that fits on a Mil-spec Ar-15 lower. It shoots the FN 5.7X28 round and utilizes the FN PS 90 magazines. Put an EO tech 516 on it and also will try an aimpoint M-3. The magazine (10-30-50 round mags)sits on top of the fore-end and the ejection of spent rounds is through the magazine well of the lower receiver. Seems like a well made upper and has two side rails and a lower rail for accessesories. It has a rail near the rear of the action for optics and a small forward rail for a front sight if you desire. Google AR-57 for several websites and dealers of this action. Going to try it out over the holidays.

Shot the new receiver and the thing is a tackdriver. Factory magazines worked flawlessly and with the eo tech on would make a five shot group at 50 yards that could be covered by a quarter. Would be an interesting combo on a full auto M-16 as they have a full auto bolt for under $200.00. Makes me want to move to Arizona or Nevada.

If you can bring your job, come to Nevada. Come to the Reno area. The sheriff said over KKOH AM 780 one day that he signs off on three to four machine guns a month. And we have oodles of places to shoot around here...

I'am retired and am just waiting for the real estate market to stabilize and my final retirement amount to be finalized. Was just in Vegas and doing a little shooting with robgunbuilder. Going to do a little browsing of the Real Estate in North Scottsdale and Vegas area before deciding. The no income tax of Nevada looks tempting.

The Reno area is like a smaller version of Vegas. We have beautiful homes, fabulous scenery, summers are not as hot and as long as in Vegas (I think the Reno airport is at 4400 feet ASL versus Vegas at around 2100 feet ASL), we have the annual air races, tons of other events and it's just a lot more laid-back up here. We have Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake to boat and fish, the Ruby Mountains are around Elko for hunting, our speed limit is 75mph out in the toolies and we hardly ever have any rain to put the kabosh on that one day you decide to gear up and go shoot. Our summers are not really ball-burnin' hot and our winters are not really ball-freezin' cold. I love Nevada. Came from Northern Virgina. Hated it. No place to shoot. I only go back now to spend time with my beloved parents every year or so...

Been up there several times for Tahoe and the surrounding areas. Have friends that left Southern California to work for Reno PD and the Sheriff's dept. One reason for Vegas is that my parents live there and I like the year round golfing that is available. Also closer to Arizona where friends are also. Will be st SCI next week and would like to go to the air races next September. Lots of choices.

The traffic is so bad in Vegas you have to keep a revolver under your seat. Not to have for personal defense, though. You need to have it handy so you can shoot yourself to get out of the traffic jams they have down there every ten to fifteen minutes. The whole of I-15 running through town is perpetually torn up. People ignore the speed limits, red lights and One Way signs. Everybody is in a massive hurry down there, and YOU are in their way. I think it's the heat that does it and the fact that everything is so vastly spread out down there. It takes so long to get from here to there, you just get irritated with the ding-dong in front of you who didn't smoke rubber when the light changed from red to green. Vegas is like that. I have zero need for the place...

After being in L.A for my whole life, traffic is a way of life. There are positives and negatives in both locations. Don't like the cold and snow in the winter, the heat doesn't bother me as I like to swim and enjoy the evenings and mornings. See what happens in the future.

Compared to Dallas TX I did not find the traffic that bad in LA. I have been there several times for a month or more. Their freeway system is pretty good... And the weather is awsome. Also I have found the people to be really nice, which did freak me out, as I had heard so much bad stuff... I have even been to Compton several times... However I was heavily armed. I worked in the Compton area for part of my Law Enforcment Career. Africa seems pretty tame after South Central.

You guys ain't shit! I grew up in Compton! Only white boy on the block. Then worked LAPD Southeast, 77th, Southwest, and Metro in South LA for a million years. My nick name on the department, (besides "Shit Magnet") was "The Compton Jet". Have to laugh at guys who think Bulawayo and JoBerg are big deals. PS---not all states without income tax are the promised land. Some get it in other ways. Think property and sales tax. 114-R10David

Property tax in Texas is pretty high about twice what Calif anf Nevada are. State sales tax in Nevada is around 8.25%. About the same for Calif and nevada with sales an Prop Tax, with no State income tax in Nevada.

FWIW, I've spent most of my life in LA, Las Vegas, Reno and Dallas. LA: if you have a significant commute, the traffic is unmatched. My record was 4 hours and 45 minutes to and from work one day; it was a high rain day, and there was moderate flooding. The RE prices were exceptionally high and there was a 9.5% state income tax. I've heard the income tax was raised in recent legislation. The plus is that Prop 13 limits property taxes to sane levels. LV: dysfunctional traffic patterns but not the soul destroying inertia of LA. The RE market is currently in complete chaos, and I'm sure you can buy a terrific house for cheap; don't try to sell it anytime soon, though. The downside is that a certain type of person is drawn to Vegas, and it's a lousy place to raise kids. Most jobs are low value and the casinos are awful places to work. My mother and father-in-law moved there to retire about 10 years ago. The old Vegas they loved is gone, for the most part, and they have made the decision to relocate. Reno/Sparks: I really liked Reno, but left about 20 years ago due to lack of job opportunity. Things may have changed; I know the area has grown a great deal. It is cool and very dry. If you like outdoor activities, the is a great deal to do. If you want a real city, Sacramento is only about 2.5 hours away, and the Bay Area (which has everything) is a bit over 5 hours away. The cold isn't so bad. Yes, it's cool, but it only snows in town rarely. Don't confuse a Pittsburgh winter with a winter at Tahoe, as they are two entirely different beasts. In Tahoe, the clouds blow away, and you're left with dazzling sunshine and glorious blue sky. Dallas: very decentralized over a large area. Like LA, people often say they live in Dallas, but they are really referring to one of the suburbs. My wife and I moved here from LA, and our real standard of living went up by about 40%, as did our quality of life. Fairly high property taxes, but the school taxes go away at 55 (correct me if I'm wrong). Since the school tax is 85% of the property tax, I'm not really worried. No state income tax. The only bad thing about Dallas is that it's too far from the ocean. There are, however, about 60 lakes within 100 miles. analog_peninsula ----------------------- It takes character to withstand the rigors of indolence.

Napoli has whores on the streets, burning tires to attract attention and keep warm. At least that's how it was when I was there in 1972...
