Red stuff? White stuff? How much?

My trip to the range yesterday in cool weather, I encountered 3 failure to pick up round and 2 fail to fire. I think I had too much grease in the action and bolt and chilly temps, the grease contributed to my problems.

I did find that BL-C2 and Nosler 168 CC were awesome out of the rifle!

I would think unless you had a huge amount of grease, it would not be the culprit. From what you describe I would double check the gas cylinder/plug to insure it is torqued properly.
Have shot the M1A/M14 for quite a few years now and as for which grease, there are numerous ones out there that work fine, but for me I use a disc brake grease(auto store source) which is obviously used in a high contaminate area and exposed to severe heat/cold as well. Permatex as well as othes offer it and it is a synthetic base grease. Slight grease on top of hammer, grease on bolt roller, back of three lugs, two front, one rear(tiny),op rod groove in right side of receiver, and at base of hammer in trigger group. I mentioned the gas plug and perhaps you have already checked it, but it does require use of drill bit to clean out the carbon if has not been done for a while. I clean mine every 100rnds or less. The temperature would have to be near zero for hesitancy to function from my experience. You are right about BL-C2 for years it was known as "camp perry powder."

Yes sir. I cleaned the carbon with my cleaning bits. I appreciate your input!

Lubriplate was "standard issue" for the M14 when I was in the Corps.
