My father in law is lookionng to put a scope mount is Springfield. His eyesight is not what it used to be.

Anyway he is not afraid to spend money for quality, but there is no reason to go crazy.

which one would you buy?
I'm going to look around and see what is available, what should he pay?

thanks

Hello,
There are numerous mfg.'s on the market, but one I used some years ago was made by Smith Enterprises and it was of quality. Would suggest you look strongly at whichever one that also attaches to the stripper clib guide, giving two points of contact w/ the receiver. Check w/ Fulton Armory for whatever they might offer, generally of good quality items. Would also mention that I never found the M14/M1A to be user friendly w/ scope due to high mounting position of the scope and would further suggest adding strap on cheekpiece to elevate the line of sight w/ the scope. Fulton and others offer these as well. (I fully understand about the eye sight not being what it once was.) Good luck

There are quite a few out there. Just about everyone would agree that you should avoid the Springfield Armory two-screw mounts. I didn't have the problem with it loosing zero, but did not like how high it sits.

Smith Enterprise is well regarded. Sadlak makes a copy of the Brookfield mount, in aluminum, steel, lightened steel (Airborne) and titanium. I went for the Airborne version on my M-1A and I like it a lot. It ran ~$295. The aluminum one is $150 - and would be fine for occasional use, i.e., not heavy duty.

Picture below has both my Springfield Armory M-1A SuperMatch w/ Millet DMS 1x4 and Sig-Sauer P-220 SuperMatch

You can still see your iron sights over the mount, and under the rings - there is a channel milled in the top of the mount to see through.

Sadlak also offers a fitting service if the groove milled into the side of the receiver is off just a bit.

FWIW, I also like the Sadlak extended mag release - it speeded up my changes for three-gun use. Also installed a Smith extended bolt release.

I have mounted and fired several-- Springfield Armory and clones, A.R.M.S., Sadlak, and Smith.
Most seem to work well.

The 3rd Generation Springfield seems to be the most requested for the ones I mounted.

Below are some bookmarks I had on this subject.
