I've been reading and watching reviews. The trigger is no great shakes, but it has a nice 1:8, 5-R, button-rifled Savage barrel with Wylde chamber and looks to be capable of half-inch or better groups with handloads at 100 yards. This kind of accuracy potential has been hard to find in an off-the-shelf AR in the $800 neighborhood. I normally yawn when I read about yet another AR or 1911 being produced for what seems a saturated market, but the Savage stands out at the price point.

Just handled the entry-level Savage MSR Patrol model at the local gun shop. Nicely finished and no rattles. The Recon is the one I want however, as it has the 5-R rifled barrel.
