but still with front and rear iron sights, but optic capable. Any suggestions? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a bragging rights at the range. Just a gun that functions well. I have a Bushmaster Carbon 15 that does not have iron sights.

I prefer fold down sights, I like the YHM sights. They also make them for Wilson Combat.

Mike, that one still has the AR style front sight which I don't especially like. I would like iron sights that I can co-witness with an optic.

I like the YHM sights because when they are folded, all you do is press a button and they pop up and lock into place.

I do not like to have my iron sights visible when looking through the red dot sight.

So I always keep them folded. Which helps tp portect them from damage when usomg some sort of Optic. Also I use the EOTec sight that is on the QD lever base and is raised 7mm higher that some of their other red dots. I also have the EOTec 3x magnifer on the same style 7mm raised QD mount.

That way when the YHM sights are raised up they co-witness in the lower 1/3 of the EOTec sight.
I prefer this a lot better.

I use this same setup on 308 AR's as well.

I also always leave the ironsights on the gun, including the rear when using some sort of scope.

On an AR15 with an ACOG this caused you to mount the ACOG a little farther foward than its eyerelief was designed for. I just collaspe the rearstock a notch or two, depending on the clothing I am wearing.

I have seen some people with fixed stock AR's mount the rear sight in front of the ACOG, and sight it in and leave it there...

The front and rear YHM will fit on the standard Pictinny rail.

However, they are designed to work when the front sight and the rear sight are on rails of the same height. Some gas block pic rails are not the same height as the reciever rail.

I recommend you try to get an AR that has a continious top rail on the forend that is the same height as the reciever pic rail.

The gun itself is for sale on Gunbroker for a buy it now price of $749, but the seller has some extras on it (like the sights!). Just don't know if it justifies the price he is asking.

I'm no fan of the M4 barrel configuration with the flash suppressor and turned down section for a granade launcher

I prefer a heavy contour barrel with no flash suppressor in a 1-8 or 1-7 trist of 18" min.

I'm putting a heavy 3/4" front 18" Wilson 1-8 on a build for my wife as we speak

I agree somewhat with Ted, I just never saw the reason the have the "Grenade Launcher" cuts on a rifle ment for civilian sales. Seems like a lot of extra machining for nothing.

However I will also say that I have not seen any accuracy issues with those barrels.

That's good to know NE, I don't really want a heavy barrel. I need something light but still accurate. I don't mind the barrel heat so much, but it can be a pain, literally.

I have shot several different Colt 16" skinny barreled AR's over the years. They all shot plenty good. The wife has killed several turkeys with one and I have used one to kill javellina at 330 yards or so. In fact I used her turkey gun with the old Colt 3x scope mounted on the handle.

The ballistic cam on those old Colt 3x scopes was spot on with 55 grain ammo.
