I am not aware of a "new" ACC556, but 26 years ago when my job was selling mchine guns, I bought all 4 varieties that were available then for myself. That is, the 556 blue finish (standard stock); 556 blue finish (folding stock); 5.56 stainless (standard stock), and 556 stainless (folding stock).

I had no problems with the gas systems whatsoever, but did find that the darned 3-position selector switch assembly (semi-auto, full-auto, and 3-shot-burst)was very prone to breaking. If I had one now (I sold mine in favor of other makes/models of guns), I'd be very sure to get a schematic on proper disassembly/replacement of the selector switch system, and lay in a large supply of selector switch springs if I could.

P.S.: I disliked the AC556 so much after 15 years of trying to keep them running reliably that I sold the last one to a Class 3 dealer over in Bend, Oregon for a flat $500. Frankly, I'd prefer even a Sten gun (and that's saying a lot!). YMMV, of course.

Well, I see I wasted your time with my response. (Mine too.) I was not aware Ruger was recycling the 556 designation. Having now read other threads posted below yours, I see we are speaking of two entirely different firearms.

Sorry 'bout that.

Heh Gumboot, we have one at the shop for $1795. Have sold a few and all that have them seem to like them. They are a bit on the heavy side, but look like a very well made gun.
Cheers.

I haven't fired a Ruger for group, but my choice for a piston rifle in 223 is the Sig 556.

A piston gun will not be as accurate as a gas gun.

Hello,
Are you saying the accuracy of the piston version less than gas impingement due to the piston action, movement, harmonics, etc.??
Never thought about it until you mentioned it, just curious. Glad to see you like the X Ring.

The Sten (and its last version the Patchett/Sterling ) is the most reliable SMG I know.

I think the initial inquiry is regarding the SR556, not the AC556 MG. Few of the SR's have turned up at local range and seem to run fine and come with a full pkg., no need to buy accessories and even include quality soft case. The folks that have them refer to them as their "truck" gun and keep it behind/under the seat w/ most likely several hundred rounds of ammo. Must be expecting some trouble down the road!! Have shot them, OK, and fine that the Ruger FH can be swapped out w/ the std. 15/16 birdcage version if desired. If required, factory service from Ruger is a plus compared to some others out there, but at this time I see no reason to switch from my built 15's to the Ruger SR556. Biggest enemy I have to deal with is the X ring and the SR556 is not set up for that type of shooting, or at least at this time anyway.

I have one but have only put about 60 rounds thru it.It is a nice, well built and equipped rifle.Comes in it's own soft case with 3 30 round Magpull magazines.Has Troy adjustable sights that are quick detach. It is a little heavy. My only complaint is the trigger which is heavy and mushy.I will probably replace it with a Timney as I am familiar with the brand and have them on most of my hunting rifles. I'm not familiar with the other triggers on the market as this is my first AR type rifle. All the triggers I've seen are $200 and up which is a bummer.
I think the rifle will be accurate once the trigger problem is resolved
