I have sold two of them out of my gun shop. Both went to law enforcement officers. Feedback from them is that they are extremely impressed and satisfied with their weapons. They both liked the compact design of the rifle. With a good optic, the rifles are extremely accurate. I do not know if the European models are different from the ones we have here or not. Good luck with your quest.

Noted LE trainer Darryl Bolke prefers the AUG. After shooting his I was rather impressed.

The microtech clone I have is quite accurate and is very reliable. The Steyr ones I have shot were a bit less accurate, but were also pretty shot out.

They are more handy than the AR, but their triggers, like any bull pup are not very good. It also has a bit cludgy mag change compared to the AR.

If you can get a current production AUG or a NIB, it is a great rifle. Otherwise, consider the tavor, as it is functionally very close to the AUG.

Steyr brought a few to a local machine gun shoot around here this summer. They ran 3 or 4 guns, full auto, all day with no failures.

i have one - quite a piece. accuracy is quite good, but the original optical sight is very low powered and has only a large circle for a reticule. I did send mine back and at the time they would change out the optical insert to one with a small crosshair in the circle which helps greatly. interesting internal is that it appears to come right out of a m1/m14 only in nylon. never had a malfunction

I have one; got it when they first came out many years ago. I traded the original receiver for one with the flat top and it now has a Steiner scope on it; better than the original circle reticle, but actually, for a combat rifle, that is perfect. It is accurate and reliable, but, not worth the money when compared to any of the AR15 types. They have more versatility.

I have quite a bit of experience with a few original Steyr AUG's. I must say that I really like them.
I used one as a Work gun for a few years, used one in 3 Gun Matches, killed two deer with one, and shot Prairie Dogs with one using the special reciever and a more powerful scope.

The only negative things about them is that they use a proprietary magazine and they are mostly "plastic".

At one time you could get a replacement stock that accepted AR15 magazines. Not sure if they are still made though.

Original optical sight on AUG is not a scope but a sight that allows shooting naturally with both eyes opened.
