jeffeossoruger sfar 16.1
I finally bit the bullet and got one - haven't had a chance to get out and shoot it yet -- uhm, the guys saying what a "Great" trigger it has are full of beans .. it's LIGHTER than some milspec triggers, but it aint a clean break ---
what's odd is that in all the reviews, which ruger appears to have watched an updated the rifle over, no one is using good ole core-lokt 150, 165, or 180gr bullets - these have "always" shot well in 308s for me, including r25 and norinco m14. so i am hoping it either shoots these well, or my loads for my old r25 .. either way shoots fine
first impressions? while it's a light 308, it could have been lighter, and wouldn't have hurt my feelings. The brake is huge and ugly, and reportedly loud - too bad it didn't come with a thread protector

jeffeossohere's the list of complaints/fixes i think are needed or at least wanted
verify gas block is properly attached and aligned - and locktited
verify gas block doesn't hit rails (this one kind of annoys me)
check crown for burrs
check handguard is properly attached
inspect barrel ext for burrs
inspect edge of chamber for burrs (if it looks like pics i have seen on the web, i'll be writing ruger to properly dress that edge)
inspect chamber/barrel for "coating" in them, which may explain why there is a recommended 200 round break in period ... i don't do panther pees/chicken teeth breakins on GOOD barrels
after shooting, check gas block, bcg, the area between barrel and barrel ext, and bolt for "glitter" from cutting scraping cases
things to consider, for fun
i have a good trigger, which will likely go into the gun in phase 2 of testing
consider an h2/h3 recoil buffer for weight...
Limbsaver "pad" for stock
Things i have already noticed
picatinny rail is NOT to spec -- i've a nikon scope that's been on quite a few ARs, AR10s, and picatinny rails on bolt guns without adjustment - it won't close, meaning the ruger is larger than the others, and has to be adjust to fit -- not chuffed about that part
it has a HEAVY recoil buffer spring
lots of drag when manually cycling
trigger is NOT NOT NOT crisp
Here's what i HOPE will happen
i'll likely send back to ruger, if needed, before recrowning
it will shoot 2 or less MOA, which would be the WORST 308 i've ever owned
greenbox corelokt bullets shoot fine
"someone" determines the magic formula for springs and weights, and it becomes common knowledge
if i can get close to 1MOA, i'll be OKAY with it .. but, frankly, for a 16" 308, it SHOULD shoot lights out
oh, my rifle is "2.0" which means it SHOULD have updated and well installed gas block
