Best advice I can give is to do an internet search on surplus 308 ammo.

I have been shooting an H&K 91 since 1977.

I have shot a lot of different kinds of US and Foreign surplus, and US sporting ammo in it with no problems.

I have never shot any steel cased or nickle plated cases in it.

Try J & G Sales or Lucky Gunner.

I recently shot some of Cabela's "Herters" 308 ammo in a new FN SCAR 17s.. Went through a clip with about three misfeeds and finally could not chamber a round at all.

There had been a case head separation and the steel case was stuck in the chamber and it was a real pain for the gunsmith to get it out. I would never recommend a steel cased round. I did not save very much by using cheaper ammo.

Since the 91 is notoriously hard on brass you might want to look into the berdan primed South African surplus stuff. Shoot it and let the cases lay for metal collectors. It's reliable in my M1As, RRA, and my buddie's 91. Pretty accurate, too.

Gentlemen I can assure you that the H&K 91 is not as hard on brass as a M1-A.

Most people recommend shooting a case in an M1-A no more than 4 times.

I did a test one time where I fired 11 cases, 10 different headstamped Military cases and one Federal 308 case, in an H&K 91.

The cases were still going strong so I stopped the test.

While the cases do look "narley" and have the flutes on them, once resized, in regular RCBS dies they chamber and shoot just fine.

Interesting, I've run one batch of cases through my super match 12 times and they neck up tight yet. My RRA does a little better. Both chambers are fairly tight though.

Also I can recommend some good hunting reloads for your H&K 91.

With 150 gr bullets try 42gr of IMR 3031.

For 165/168 gr bullets try 39.5gr of IMR 3031.

I have killed a LOT of game with my H&K 91.
