I searched through this forum for reviews on the Stag ARs.

The comments were for the most part very positive.

Being left handed I am considering ordering one.

If anybody can share recent experiences with the Stags, especially the Model 8T (Piston) rifle, it would be appreciated.

Mike, I cannot help with the piston model, but I do own a 6HL. I can tell you that off a bench it is the most boring one hole rifle I have ever owned. I am not over about 200 rounds in, but at 100 it is one ragged hole as long as you want to shoot it, and it really doesn't seem to make much difference what you are feeding it... My plan after the first of the year is to start loading the 68s and 77s and see how they do.

Stag guarantees half moa if memory serves, and I have no reason to believe the 6HL will disappoint.

I have a 6-H also and really like it.
littlegirl shoots my standard A-3 flat-top with full length stock and I can't pry it from her hands.
now the regular stag is not going to compare with my armalite M-15 or M-15 N.M. rifles in any way, but that 6-H is super [stupid] accurate if fed any type of decent ammo.
the price difference between the two brands shows [as it should], but the stag is a super-solid value as far as AR rifles go.
i wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

I "built" one (hard to say this with real gunsmiths around) using a stag left handed upper and lower earlier this year. It came together well and being left handed there aren't many options in uppers. It was a good learning experience and gives you intimate knowledge of how things function. I would not hesitate to do it again. I doubt I saved any $ this way but the experience was worth it. I know nothing about the piston model though.

There is not point to getting the left handed model, get left handed controls and it doesn't matter where the brass comes out of the rifle.

It does matter where the brass flies. I have been shooting ARs for years in a couple of configurations. I am tired of spent brass flying in front of my face. I cut a coil out of the ejector rod spring to throw the brass more forward but it always bothers me to have the bolt opening in front of my right eye.

I now more fully understand why the negative comments about the Windham rifles... you are just about an opinionated sucker, aren't you?

I have a Stag 3G. I have not had it long and have not shot it a bunch, but so far I like it.

It looks to be well put together.

Yes, gas comes out. I shoot left handed enough to know that these problems are overstated if you aren't using a silencer.

The left handed barrel extensions are a stag proprietary part.

Thanks to all who commented on the thread. I just need to decide between the 8TL and 3L.

Tony, if you run a couple of thousand rounds through your 3G in a weekend, let me know how it holds up.

I bought my first AR in 1982 (Colt SP1 that I still own, now in a match rifle configuration) and have been a true left hander all my life. There is no purpose to try to tell me what I need in regards to a left handed rifle.

Mike, I am going to try and go to the range tomorrow, I will run some rounds through the Stag, and shoot somemgroups with different ammo in it.

As to a left hand AR.

Years ago my work gun was an original AR 15, full auto made in the 1960's.
It did not have a brass deflector. My left hand partner used to shoot it and he carried it sometimes as well.
When shooting prone the cases would brush across his cheek quite a bit, afdter a few hundred rounds he would have a blister on his face.

I also shot that rifle a lot in drills left handed...

So I fully see why you want a left hand rifle.

Mike I shot the Stag 3G today 260 rounds. It was scoped with a 4x ACOG. I shot mostly EWinchester 55 gr White Box, and I shot some Federal American Eagle 55 gr, and some Winchester 55 gr Ballistic Silvertip.
I also shot a reload with the 75gr Hornady Match bullet that another club member was shooting in his AR.

I had no malfunctions. The Ball ammo shot its typical 2 to 2.5" groups.
The Winchester 55 Grain Ballistic Silvertips shot one inch to 1.5" groups, and tghe 75 gr Hornady load shot 4 rounds into a group I copuld almost cover with a nickle, and completely cover with a quarter.
I was using a Caldwell "Bulls Bag" and no rear bag.

I had no problem hitting the 400 and 500 yard 16" gongs with the 55gr Winchester Silvertip ammo.

The Geisele 3 gun trigger is VERY GOOD.

I have shot a lot of different AR's over the years and the STAG seems just fine to me.

The Muzzle break on the 3G is very efficient, in fact shooting fast off hand it may even be a little too good.

I also like the Samson Front handguard on the 3G.

Mike, also I have never had any problems with Direct gas AR's.
