| Why do you ask? In my experiece, the Armalite will be of higher quality, but neither will be as reliable as an M14/M1A. |

| I have the 18" bull barrel "LR-308B" (I think). I have had no problems to speak of and am completely happy with it. I don't know much about AR-10's but I think the armalite takes different mags than most. I have shot several hundred rounds through mine, and it has never once jammed or failed to function flawlessly. I shot a roughly measured 7/8" five shot group at 100 yds with it (measured outside to outside). That is (roughly) .5MOA. I love mine and am glad I got it when I did. I did change the trigger on mine and that made a world of difference. It is probably worth the extra $200 for the JP trigger if one of the ones your looking at has that option. For what its worth, I also have a DPMS 223 and I bought one for my brother also and both are on par with the above mentioned 308. |

I don’t know much about them either naja302. That’s the reason I asked. How’s the recoil on that 308? |

| i've got a couple of lar's, the problem with dpms is the triggers are very poor, so you end up replacing them, no big deal but its another 200. mags are the same as the stoner but are available at 44mag.com for about $30. the ar10 uses fal mags which you can pickup at any gunshow cheap. If you really want the ultimate go to the jp rifle, you'll wait 4 months for it and spend almost twice, but it is worth it. actually what i see in ar's is that they are all pretty much the same today. there's so much competition out there that the junkers are mostly gone. but like anything else if you want a premium piece you're going to pay for it |

Not bad for a heavy trigger and cheap scope. |

| My AR-10 uses reconfiguered (By Armalite) M1A magazines and the factory has magazines with 5-10-15-20 and 30 round capacity. Don't know if FAL mags will fit?
I like the quality and like the AR-15 ergonomics, and have found it to be an accurate and reliable rifle. |

| I have shot a couple DPMS .308's
They are a little lighter recoil (to me) than a HK or a FAL, Modestly less than a bolt. A bit more than a full up M14. (weight)
As to the comments between Armalite and DPMS, both have their proponents. I always was told that AR stood for Assault Rifle (not armalite)- but that was the Army.
DPMS factory mags are 19 rounds. Knights and most of the aftermarket mags are 20's Armalite uses a mag system unique to them compared to the DPMS/Stoner commonality.
I think you can modify some other mags to make them work, but it takes some work, I just buy the new ones and pay my $$$
As to best AR type replacement trigger, I would think the JP is the best. It will require a competent gunsmith to fit it (some hobbyists can, but it is mildly tricky) Otherwise, there are some folks making drop in triggers (McCormick, etc.) which are better than the stock DPMS or Armalite, but not quite as good as the JP. The JP is a single stage trigger, which avoids that take up step of a conventional national match 2 stage.
Most 3 gun shooters use the JP set up, but that's neither here or there.
Butchloc is referring to the JP rifle, which is a semicustom build. This is optimized for 3 gun shooting, but they guarantee a MOA performance. (I think its 1 MOA, but it might be less, don't quote me on the exact #) |
