just got my hands on a Remington R-25 in 308 Win...

my first impressions are NICE it has a decent trigger for a factory gun I like the camo patter and weight is not bad mine set up is just under 12lbs which some might seem heavy but it is light in comparison to what i have used the past few years of a 14.5lbs custom bolt action..
A few of my friends that own AR-10 rifles told me that i should steer clear of the 150gr bullets and that theirs really liked the 180gr Spire points boat tails so made some loads up with the 168 gr Barns TSX and worked it in .5 gr increments from 43.0-44.5 Varget with a Remington case and a Remington 9.5 Primer and have found that the 44.5 gr charge has a 3 shot group of .775 X .660... I did try some 150gr Swift Sciroccos with a 44.0 gr of Varget and surprisingly had a 3 shot string that was .860 X .730 which I do not think is very bad.. I will also be trying the 150gr TTSX with about the same powder charge as the 168gr TSX.. All my shots have been at 100yards and will be heading out to try some of the loads at 300 yards
I plane on using the R-25 for my box stand gun(5’X5’ with a small heater 17ft up ) on a power line clearing where I can shoot anywhere from 75-400 yards with no issues. The walk in is not very far 270 yards thru some trees and there is a trail leading me to my honey hole. I have shot many deer from this stand and most of them I have had 15-30 min to decide if I would want them to be in my freezer

I shoot 168gr amax over 46grs of varget. I can cover the groups completly with my thumbnail . Just a place to start. IT also shoots federal gold medal match well.

1 shot 1 thrill
