Anyone have an M1A? What scope mount do you use? To many to choose, I would like one that I can easily remove and holds zero.

Try the Basset Machine and Tool M 1-A mount. They are made in Texas.

They are very simple, easy to use and they go back to zero 100%. I have used and seen used, several different M1-A mounts. The Basset is the best I have used, bar none.

Any good deals out there on magazines for M1A's? I have a few but would like a couple more.

The bad part on the casm mount is that it requires removal of the rear sight. I, personally, would never remove the sights on any battle rifle. I use the A.R.M.S mount which is very solid, it requires removing the clip charger(one screw) and is a very solid mount. The Smith Enterprise mount is used by the military and is highly thought of. I would not use aluminum scope mounts on a rifle where durability and reliability are a must.
U.S.G.I. mags are the best available, but hard to find and about $50-75 when you do. The Taiwan made, parkerized mags were made on equipment bought surplus from the U.S. and are pretty good and they usually run around $25. I would not buy any blue steel aftermarket mag as all I have seen have been pretty crappy.

yes to the removal of the rear site...that is what has kept me from buying one the instant I ran across the mount. Still might try one.

personal choice on that score...a lot of the optics available these days are nearly indestructible.
As evidenced the US military, having optics on nearly every rifle in the field.

yea it's a battle rifle. I don't know about you, but I have never been in a battle, and do not expect to have to storm the beaches at Normandy, or go street to street in Fallujeah(sp). I just like to shoot mine for fun.

I like the idea of an aluminum mount, everyone of the steel mounts are too freakin heavy.

Time will tell if they are strong enough for the M1A. I have not heard of any failures.

It's a scout mount. I have one on my Garand because my old eyes don't work with the iron sights anymore. This Amega setup has worked really good for me. It doesn't permanently modify your rifle and you can put it back to issue and also keep the iron sights on it.

I have a SA M1A SuperMatch and I use a Smith Enterprises mount, this is a steel mount and is rock solid. Stay away from SA alum mounts they will shoot loose.
As far as magazines go with Checkmate they are excellant mags.
