On the outside it looks like a Colt M4. On the inside it is a gas piston gun.

You already know this, but HKPro is rumor central for these types of things.

HK does not seem too interested in the civilian market. It would be surprising but positive if these become available at a reasonable price.

But they better move fast.

It'll be available on Dec 31 and banned by the President Messiah by Jan 2.

( I had to pull your chain, but I have no idea if HK will actually offer these to the public, I don't think they sell them to Law Enforcement, last time I checked it's a military only item)

There are drop in gas-piston conversions for ARs not made by HK and have been on the market for a while, if that's your goal. Check your Brownells catalog. Myself, I LIKE direct gas systems.

That's great news. Maybe we can buy one before they get banned.

There was a link to a 10.5" upper for $3K but that is too much. I do not hold out much hope of affordable civilian HK 416s before the AWB tries to come back.

Oops -- it was $4k.

From what I heard from a contact involved in the actualy military testing is the Army basically told HK to go to hell. The were fed up with their sells department and general attitude, although the 416 was acceptable, they had enough of their personnel. They went with the FN SCAR. So I would think it was up to HK whether they had other clients to sell the platform too or go to the civilian market. I'll tell you one that, that upper that sold for 5g wasn't worth it.
