I would estimate that the rifle with the modifications would be worth around $2,000.00 (US). You might get someone to pay more then that since the .257 Wby. Mag. is a pretty popular cartridge. The stock if it hasn't been refinished would be worth around $1,000.00, and the -SuperGrade- floorplate most likely around $200.00. I can't tell if the rear site is original from the picture. If it is a 22G with a 3c elivator that would be worth around $100.00. The Pre 64 Model 70 is the finest magazine rifle ever built. If you don't need the money I would hang on to it. It looks like a very intersting rifle, even with the modifications

I think $2,000.00 is a tad high, it is close though.

The good thing about a 1953 Supergrade is there isn't anything special about the metal. Some were marked SUPER underneath but just as many weren't. You can put any clean 1953-1954 barreled action in that and it will be good to go as a Supergrade. After 1954 they started rust blueing the barrels as they did on the earlier ones and sometime before 1953 they had rust blued barrels. One thing is check if yours has the long gold bead Redfield #255 front sight as you will need to swap that out to your new barreled action. That rear sight is no 22-G; it may have been original to the gun, but without documentation (original paperwork) it is a bit of a detractor.

That barreled action kills your gun. Swap it out and have a darn nice hunting rifle to hunt with or sell and have a good, clean, unaltered Supergrade to keep or sell for top dollar. It just seems like a shame to hunt with that stock, but it is yours to do what you want with.

Whatever the value, it's worth a whole lot less than if someone would have just left it alone.

I would look around to find a period replacement barrel just to get it more correct.
