Just acquired a Lyman M-48 W.J.S. to complete restoration of a Win. M-54 for a friend. Are there any experts that can tell me the age of this sight. I understand that there were a couple of versions. His original base is stamped N3 on the inside of the dove tail. This one is E15. The box says 48 WJS Micrometer Receiver with One Quarter Minute Adjustments with Disc for Winchester Bolt Action Rifles Model 54 and 70 Remington 721. the printed price on the box is $12.50. Would appreciate any help in the details of each of these sights.

Go to Lyman's online site. There is a toll-free information number. They may be able to help you. (I'm at work and the company's system blocks that site or I would give you the number here) I have called with sight questions and they had the answers.
Good luck

Hey Paul,

I've been looking for that exact sight. Couple questions- Did your source have more than one? May I ask how much you had to give for it? I want to put one on my Pre-war 70 carbine. Thanks, Gary

Keep looking at ebay. I have been bidding for sights for about three years. There are commonly M-48's for sale. Do your search for "Lyman M-48" and one for "Lyman Sights", seems that some listers don't include the model number. I have seen everyting from parts to near new sights with box and instructions. Auction prices have ranged from around $40 to over $100. I finally got this one for $39 plus $5 shipping. I believe that the low price was a result of a fuzzy photo that accompanied the advertisement. It didn't do a lot for the sight. However it is complete with box, and fully functional, only missing one mounting screw (which we have from the base that was on the rifle). Just looks hunted with. Good luck.
