I have come across a 404 Jeffery built by that company for sale and wondered if anyone could give me an approximate value of it.

It looks to be original apart from the previous owners name on the barrel, it has been drilled and tapped for scope mounts, and the recoil pad has been replaced for a Pachmeyer. Also the bolt handle has been swept back for the mounting of a scope.

It has Safari open sights, one standing and 3 folding rear and the front sight has a folding hood.

Wood is in very good condition and the bore looks to be very good. I would guess that this rifle has not seen much work - bluing is still very good.

Any ideas on the value would be appreciated.

I looked around a bit just for my own edification. I saw Jeffery's bolt action rifles going for anywhere from 4k to 7k USD . I saw one listed for 50,000 Rand but I don't know what a Rand is worth

Hope you get it.

Nick

The USD is about 6.1 Rands so that makes that rifle about 8200 USD. I guess that would be a pristine rifle for that sort of money.

Thanks for your imput anyway. I have been keeping an aye on this particular rifle to see if there is any interest in it at all.

MLG,

I have no role in this other than to suggest this but a member on these forums has a Jeffrey 450-400 double for the kind of prices that you're talking about and he has hinted to some people here that he would like to sell it.

The only problem is that he is not in the USA and I have no idea what the import formalities are though he could easily export the rifle from where he is.

I'll let him talk about it. He was planning to post it on the classifieds here but hasn't so far.

Good hunting!

Thank you, Mehul.

MLG, I am the AR member, Mehul was refering to.

The Jeffery .450/.400 belongs to a friend of mine and he has asked me to find him a buyer. Lack of ammo being the sole reason according to him.

The one major fault with this double is that the original express rear sight was damaged and has been replaced with a fixed sight. Whether or not this has been regulated I cannot say, as I have never shot this rifle.

The stock will need to be rechequered and the metal reblued.

There was grease in the bore but a cursory examination of the rifling indicated that it was in good nick.

Other than the points mentioned above, the owner claims that the rifle is in good working condition. And for what its worth, I have found him to be an honest person.

The asking price for this rifle is in the region of US$ 8,000.00

If you or anyone else should require pictures and the sellers contact details, please e-mail me at rustambana@satyam.net.in
