Have found an old muzzleloading shotgun that I'm looking for some info on. Single 33 1/2" barrel w/exposed hammer. (cap style)
No sights, one bead, ram rod, cupped to push in a ball maybe? Smooth bore measuring approx 16.5 mm. There is a cartushe on the left side of the stock and right side plate reads:
1864 and US W M MASON, Taunton, There is also a flying eagle engraved near the hammer w/ arrows in one claw and vines in the other?
Any idea's on information or value? I am looking at possibly buying it, but don't know what I'd do with it. It's in nice shape, but has been cleaned up and somewhat polished. Minor pitting on the receiver and the wood is pretty nice. To old to shoot I would think.
