So I go to the pistol range today. After relieving some aggression I look over his assortment of firearms for sale and find an old model Ruger 44 carbine in very fine shape. I have no idea what something like this is worth, but sure it is not what he has on it. So what say ye? I'm a little outside of KC, for regional reference. It seems to be calling to me. If it is the standard carbine 400-600 seems to be the going rate depending on condition. If it is a sporter version, walnut stock flat butt not curved 600-800. Inspect the gun closely. Look over the trigger/ lower reciever assembly. This was made as a whole unit and is prone to cracking. If it cracks you is sol big time. If it is in good shape buy it. There are fewer and fewer of these on the market especially ones in good shape.

Are the cracks fairly evident or rather hidden? Society of Intolerant Old Men. Rifle Slut Division.

you will notice them. If the gun appears to have little use I would not worry. The problem area is the tabs that snap into the upper reciever. If the gun is taken apart often they weaken and crack. So if the gun is not taken apart alot you have nothing to worry about. The only real way to check it out is by taking the action out of the stock. The front tab is the one that usually breaks. I would not worry to much, If they crack you usually cannot reassemble the rifle. So if it is together and functions you should be okay.
