Can anyone tell me EXACTLY What I have? It is an FN Mauser chambered in 30-06 with Peruvian crest, etc. Still very much full military and "As Issued." Back of the front receiver bridge is grooved, this is to clear the ogive of the loaded rounds? This is a new twist to me so need to know what manner of beastie this be.
I know it is a Mauser 98 clone but not really sure of the model number.

Lord, give me patience 'cuz if you give me strength I'll need bail money!!

Hi I belive you have a Peruvian Model 1935 short rifle. Should have a reversed safety the saftey is on when turned to the left. Reference Mauser military rifles of the world 4th edition Robert W. D. Ball.

The rear bridge should be stamped .30 also.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.
