A friend of mine got a foot locker of his great uncle after he died and in it was a P-38 he brought home from WW2. The serial # is in the 26,000s, it has plastic wood looking grips and has the Nazi symbol on the slide. There is also a small symbol on the slide that looks like two capital "f"s one facing each way with the number 359 under it. Do any of you guys know anything about this pistol? History, worth, etc..?

Hi Perry your friends walther should have the manufacturers code "ac" and a date on it somewhere, "359" is a waffenmamt code assigned to a particular inspection team which worked at the walther factory from 1939 through to 1945, it's worth is what someone will pay for it and that depends on its condition and originality (an original gun with matching numbers and 0%bluing is worth more than a refinished gun to a colector)A large chunk of it's history was probably lost when the great uncle passed away unless he told someone the story of how he came to own it, but any paperwork associated with the gun can only add to its value. It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack; not rationality.

Go to this link http://www.p38forum.com/ these guys are very helpful, if you just read the archives, look at the photo galleries and check out a couple of the links on their site, all of your questions should be answered.
