I'm looking at an early serial number Mod. 722 Remington in 257 Roberts. It has a factory non catalogued 22" barrel. The serial number is engraved on the inside, left, of the receiver. It was Mike Walker's [Mr. Remington] personal deer rifle. The wood is highly figured and came from what Mike called "Manager's Special Wood".It has Whelen style sling in quick detachable mounts. They were a factory option in 1948 when this rifle was produced. It has a 1.5X Lyman Alaskan scope in Pachmayer Lo-Swing mounts. The documents are available to verify this. It is one of Mike's favorite rifles and is featured in a 1994 article in Precision Shooting. I bought his Mod. 37 Rem. rimfire rifle this weekend, but have no feel for the value of this one.
